‘America 250’ series to continue at museum

Doug Ohman presentation planned July 29

MARSHALL — A series of speakers and reflections on the United States’ 250th anniversary will continue in July at the Lyon County Museum.

Speaker, photographer and historian Doug Ohman will be presenting “America 250” July 29 at the museum.

Museum director Jennifer Andries said Ohman will be talking about some of the success stories of America’s history.

“It’s something he’s put together for the 250th anniversary,” Andries said.

Ohmann has photographed historic architecture and landscapes in Minnesota for many years. He is also a historian and a public speaker, and has been the featured host of eight PBS television programs. Andries said area residents are looking forward to the anniversary presentation.

“Doug has quite a following,” she said. “He travels around a lot to different places.”

Ohman was last at the Lyon County Museum earlier this spring, to talk about the history of Civilian Conservation Corps camps in Minnesota during the Great Depression.

In Ohman’s “America 250” program, he will share stories and photos that help tell the story of the country’s birth, as well as stories about some of the people who were visionaries of the U.S.’s beginnings. It won’t be his only talk in Marshall that day. Andries said Ohman will be speaking to senior citizens at the Adult Community Center in the morning, with a different presentation.

Ohman’s “America 250” presentation at the museum will start at 6:30 p.m. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Andries said members of the public will have another chance to hear Ohman speak about history later this year. In October, Ohman will be returning to the museum with a presentation on historic courthouses of Minnesota.

Starting at $3.95/week.
