Channel Parkway project OK’d second time around
MARSHALL — A planned resurfacing project on Channel Parkway went back before the Marshall City Council last week. This time around, the bids for the project were more in line with city estimates.
On March 14, council members voted to award a bid of about $1.37 million for the project.
“That’s a little under our estimate of $1.5 million,” said Marshall Public Works Director Jason Anderson.
The project would include a mill and overlay of Channel Parkway, and some changes to the median near U.S. Highway 59.
“A portion of the end of the project limits near Highway 59 will be a complete reconstruct, as we shift the median over to make more room for truck turning movements,” Anderson said.
The council had previously rejected bids to resurface Channel Parkway in concrete, when they came in over half a million dollars higher than an engineer’s estimate. After rejecting the bids, the project was redesigned to use asphalt instead. Anderson said the asphalt resurfacing would affect 3 inches of asphalt on Channel Parkway.
Anderson said the city received two bids for the redesigned project earlier this month. The low bid came from Duininck at $1,374,151.16.
Anderson said the resurfacing project will also use funds from a $1.25 million Local Road Improvement Program grant.
“The rest of our funding comes from our state aid account,” Anderson said.
“In other words, there’s no impact on the property tax levy on this project,” Mayor Bob Byrnes said.
In two separate votes, council members voted to award the bid and to approve a grant agreement for the project.
