Veterans Day programs scheduled for area communities
MARSHALL — Veterans Day is Friday, and around the Marshall area communities will be taking time to honor U.S. veterans and military service members. In Marshall, the annual Veterans Day program will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Marshall Adult Community Center. Members of the public are invited to attend.
Marshall won’t be the only place that area residents can observe Veterans Day. Below is a roundup of events taking place this week:
Balaton
A Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Balaton Community Center. The keynote speaker will be Sgt. 1st Class Nicholas DeCamp.
The public can also see a special traveling exhibit, “World War 1: Through the Eyes of West Central Minnesota,” at the Balaton Area Historical Society. The exhibit is sponsored by the Historical Society and American Legion Post #237.
Canby
A Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the new gymnasium at Canby High School. The Canby FFA will be holding a breakfast for veterans and community members from 7:30-9 a.m. in the old gymnasium. A free-will donation will be accepted.
Cottonwood
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Lakeview School main gymnasium. The Lakeview concert band and choir will perform patriotic music selections.
Granite Falls
Yellow Medicine East Schools will be holding a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Friday at the Fagen Fighters WWII Museum. The keynote speaker will be WWII Navy ace Donald McPherson.
Hendricks
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Hendricks Public School main gymnasium. The keynote speaker will be Duane Blake.
Ivanhoe
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. on Nov. 14, in the Lincoln Elementary auditorium. The keynote speaker will be Rob Hopper.
Lake Benton
A Veterans Day program will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Lake Benton Public School.
Lynd
A Veterans Day program will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lynd Public School.
Redwood Falls
A Veterans Day program will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Redwood Valley High School gymnasium. The keynote speaker will be Justin Guggisberg.
Slayton
A Veterans Day program will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Murray County Central.
Tracy
A Veterans Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Tracy Area High School gymnasium.
Tyler
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton School.
Wabasso
A Veterans Day dinner will be held at 4 p.m. on Nov. 13, in the Wabasso Community Center.
Walnut Grove
A Veterans Day program will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Westbrook-Walnut Grove Elementary.
