City recognized for energy, resource conservation

MARSHALL — The city of Marshall received an award for taking steps in the direction of energy and resource conservation and innovation.

The recognition came from the Minnesota GreenStep program. Marshall is one of 147 participating cities and tribal nations in the 12-year-old challenge, assistance, and recognition program.

“This award shows community members and other cities across Minnesota that the city of Marshall is taking great steps in the direction of energy and resource conservation and innovation,” said Amanda Beckler, community education coordinator and GreenStep program lead with the city of Marshall.

According to the city of Marshall press release, actions taken within the program focus on cost savings, energy use reduction, resource conservation, climate change, and the encouragement of civic innovation.

“This award is a great achievement for the city of Marshall,” Mayor Bob Byrnes said in the release. “And by being part of the program, Marshall and our peers are helping to make Minnesota more resilient for the future while also helping our cities thrive economically.”
