Wahl scores on passed ball for RRC/WWG’s walk-off win
RRC/WWG 6, Nicollet 5
WALNUT GROVE — The Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove softball team ended its four-game skid on Friday night, picking up a 6-5 walk-off win over Nicollet.
The Falcons trailed 5-3 through the first four innings, but scored one run in each of the next three frames to eventually come back for the win.
A Kendra Schroeder single and a Natasha Wahl walk put the go-ahead run on second base to start the seventh. A fielder’s choice took away the lead runner before Leah Carter reached on an error to reload the bases, and Wahl scored on a passed ball to clinch the victory.
Carlie Ross picked up the pitching win for RRC/WWG, giving up four earned runs on four hits and nine walks over seven innings. She also struck out four batters, and she came up with a single and a walk at the plate.
Schroeder started the Falcon comeback in the fifth, hitting a leadoff single and scoring on a two-out single from Carter. An inning later, Ross walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored the tying run on an Alandra Hansen single.
After the Raiders scored on a passed ball in the top of the first, RRC/WWG responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Wahl and Carter walked and Leah VanDeWiele hit a two-run double into center field to put the Falcons on top. Still, Nicollet answered with three runs in the top of the third.
Hansen and Schroeder each had a pair of hits for the Falcons, and Carter also reached base twice with a single and a walk.
RRC/WWG improves to 2-5 and next hosts Adrian/Ellsworth in Walnut Grove on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
