MARSHALL — Outdoor music will return to the Liberty Park Bandshell next month for four consecutive Wednesdays.

The Marshall Area Fine Arts Council has scheduled a series of four concerts, which will run from July 7 to July 28. The concerts will feature the Roe Family Singers, Mike Jacobs, the Prairie Arts Chorale and the Oak Lake String Band.

“We had no difficulty finding the performers,” said MAFAC Board President Cathy Schlagel. “They’re eager to perform and people are looking forward to hearing them. We have a great lineup.”

The Roe Family Singers are a family act that mixes old classics with youthful rock and roll. Jacobs has an extensive collection of original songs, which highlight life experiences and historic events.

The Prairie Arts Chorale entertains with a wide variety of choral music and concert themes. The Oak Lake String Band, based in the Brookings, South Dakota area, plays a combination of bluegrass, folk and blues.

All concerts have a 7 p.m. starting time. If it rains, concerts will take place at First Lutheran Church on Church Street.

Schlagel said the concerts will be reasonably accessible even with construction in the streets next to Liberty Park. Street and sewer line work is occurring on North First Street, West Redwood Street and West Marshall Street.

She said the project is running ahead of schedule because of dry weather. It’s likely that a gravel base will be laid on the streets by the evening of the first concert, which would mean that residents will be able to park on the gravel.

“The bandshell has never needed its own parking lot,” Schlagel said.

“People are used to parking and walking. The construction isn’t likely to keep them away.”

The concert series, known as A Little Night Music, is an annual activity that normally takes place after the Marshall City Band season. The city band concerts were canceled for 2021 since it wasn’t possible for the band to meet state requirements for social distancing on stage.

“We’re excited that we could bring our concert series back this summer,” Schlagel said. “People enjoy the tradition of concerts at the bandshell.”

Starting at $3.95/week.
