Highway resurfacing to start near Marshall next week

Photo by Deb Gau Road work scheduled to start next week will affect Minnesota Highway 19 on the eastern edge of Marshall, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said. MnDOT will be resurfacing a mile of Highway 19 east of Minnesota Highway 23, as well as 17 miles of U.S. Highway 59 north of Marshall.

MARSHALL — Motorists should be on the lookout for some road work near Marshall starting next week, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said. A resurfacing project on Minnesota Highway 19 and U.S. Highway 59 is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 24.

The project will resurface a mile of Highway 19 in Marshall, starting from the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway 23 and going to just west of 280th Avenue. A total of 17 miles of Highway 59 will also be resurfaced, starting north of Lyon County Road 33 in Marshall and ending south of Yellow Medicine County Road 3.

MnDOT spokespeople said there won’t be road closures for the resurfacing work. However, travelers should expect alternating lane and shoulder closures, with flag crews. Travelers should plan for short delays, and slow down in work zones, MnDOT said.

Crews anticipate starting the resurfacing work on Highway 19, but schedules could change without notice, MnDOT said.

The resurfacing project will cost $2.7 million, and be complete by the middle of September, MnDOT said. The contractor for the project is Duininck Inc., of Prinsburg.

More information on the project, including a map of construction areas, is available online at mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy59hwy19resurface.

Starting at $3.95/week.
