Israel’s top diplomat says Turkish troops will have no role in Gaza force
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Israel’s foreign minister says his government will not allow Turkish troops to take part in a future international peace force in Gaza. The United States has proposed creating a force to oversee the ceasefire agreement in the Israel-Hamas war. Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Monday that Israel opposes Turkey’s participation because of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s hostility to Israel. The 20-point ceasefire agreement brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump does not mention which countries would provide troops. Countries that are considering taking part also want more clarity on the force’s mandate.
World’s oldest president, Paul Biya, wins Cameroon election at 92
YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) — Cameroon’s top court has declared incumbent Paul Biya, the world’s oldest president, the winner of the latest election. Biya is 92 and has led the central African nation since 1982. The Constitutional Council said he received over 53% of votes on Oct. 12 while former ally Issa Tchiroma Bakary got over 35%. Biya has ruled Cameroon longer than many citizens have been alive. Over 70% of the country’s almost 30 million population is below 35.

Milei triumphs in Argentine midterm elections closely watched by Washington
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei has won decisive victories in key districts across the country in midterm elections. He clinched a crucial vote of confidence that strengthens his ability to carry out his radical free-market experiment with billions of dollars in backing from the Trump administration. Milei’s governing party won over 40% of votes Sunday to renew almost half of the lower house of Congress, according to media tallies using numbers from electoral authorities. La Libertad Avanza also swept six of the eight provinces in the vote to renew a third of the Senate. The left-leaning populist opposition movement, known as Peronism, had over 31% of the vote — the alliance’s poorest performance in years.
