Gold College kickoff Sept. 18 at SMSU

The Southwest Minnesota State University spring session of GOLD College will kick off at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Charter Hall 201 on campus. The entertainment for the kick-off event will be provided by the SMSU theater program. In celebration of Constitution Day on Sept. 17, the SMSU theater program will present songs and scenes celebrating the Constitution, citizenship and our American history. Minnesota West receives additional enrollment accreditation for dental assistant program The Minnesota West Community and Technical College dental assistant program has been awarded approval for increased enrollment at the Luverne Center. The dental assistant program has currently been offered on the Canby campus and for the fall 2019 semester the program expanded to the Luverne center. On Aug. 1, The Commission on Dental Accreditation granted the dental assisting program the accreditation approval to increase enrollment to the Luverne Center of Minnesota West. Visiting writer Tiffany Quay Tyson to read Sept. 24 at SMSU Tiffany Quay Tyson will read from her novel, “The Past is Never,” on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 7-8 p.m. in Charter Hall 201 at Southwest Minnesota State University. Her appearance is part of the annual Visiting Writers Series, sponsored by the Creative Writing Program. Zahrbock on Concordia Homecoming Committee Sadie Zahrbock of Marshall, a senior at Concordia College, Moorhead, was named to the 2019 Homecoming Committee. She is serving in the info booth. Homecoming events take place Oct. 10-13. The theme this year is “Cobber Pride. Stayin’ Alive.” Some of the activities include the homecoming banquet, a bonfire and fireworks display, a parade, reunions, football game, the homecoming concert and an all-campus worship service.

13th Ag Bowl Sept. 7 at SMSU The 13th annual Ag Bowl — presented by Ralco — is set for Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Schwan Regional Event Center and SREC parking lot on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. Ag Bowl is a celebration of agriculture in Minnesota and features numerous events for both kids and adults. Buchert named to NDSU dean’s list Monica Buchert of Russell was among the 190 North Dakota State University students to be placed on the summer 2019 dean’s list. A student must earn a 3.50 grade-point average or higher and be enrolled in at least nine class credits to qualify for the summer list. Buchert’s major is respiratory care.
