MHS speech team qualifies 2 for state

The Marshall Tiger Speech Team competed at the Section 2AA Speech Tournament on Saturday. The Tigers advanced nine students to the final round of competition and qualified two speakers for the MSHSL State Speech Tournament. Senior Zoe Vorbach placed first in the category of great speeches while freshman Lillian Guggisberg placed third in original oratory. The two will compete at the virtual state tournament in two weeks. MLK Day activities planned at SMSU

A virtual program celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at Southwest Minnesota State University will be held Jan. 18. Augustana announces dean’s list Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, announced the students named to the dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2020-21 academic year. The sean’s list recognizes full-time students who have a minimum of 12 credit hours with grade-point averages at 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale). Mustang Ice Classic goes virtual The third annual Mustang Ice Classic will take on a virtual format this year, and will be held from Feb. 13-15, 2021. Participants can fish on any lake that is covered with ice, said Alumni Director Mike VanDrehle. “It’s a change, but it’s also an opportunity. More people can participate, and it won’t be limited to Lake Sarah, the site of the first two contests. MCGA offering four $5,000 scholarships to future ag leaders The Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is providing four $5,000 scholarships to students located statewide who are pursuing a career in agriculture. Ridgewater College proposes changes to FBM program

Ridgewater College is engaged in discussions to explore the viability of transferring their Farm Business Management (FBM) program to Central Lakes College and Minnesota West Community and Technical College. The proposal, if enacted, would result in the transfer of Ridgewater’s current FBM faculty to the two partner institutions next year.
