VFW Auxiliary art contest

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 742 Auxiliary is having an art contest.

Sing the: “Star Spangled Banner”

Youth ages 6 to 16 years old. A video of contestant solo vocal performance, must be recorded by March 20.

One should state their name and age prior to the vocal performance; sing a cappella with backing tracks or instruments.

May sing in the arrangement and genre of their choice, may not exchange words.

Please save on a DVD or flash drive. Group 1: Grades K-8 and Group 2: Grades 9-12

Illustrating America Contest

The Patriotic Art Contest is for three different grade categories

1st-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, 6th-8th grade

Art must be 2 dimensional, on canvas or paper. Watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen, ink, oil, marker, glitter or other media may be used.

Submit canvas entries on stretch frame or canvas board, other entries must be matted on white or reinforced with heavy paper.

Art should be no smaller than 8” X 10″ but no larger than 18” X 24″ not including mat. Coloring sheets, digital art and photography are not accepted.

Cash prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place.

Catholic Daughters offer scholarship

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas local Court of St. Joan of Arc #1291 is offering a $500 scholarship to a 2023 graduating Catholic girl who plans to continue her formal eduction. She must be a member of Holy Redeemer parish or any of the adjacent Catholic parishes that do not have a Catholic Daughter court.

Applications are available at the Holy Redeemer Parish office or from Lois Novosad, 710 North 6th Street, Marshall, MN, 56258. Phone number is 532-5236. Completed forms, including letters of recommendations, must be returned to Novosad no later than April 15.
