Operation Christmas Child underway

Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child collection week is Nov. 15-22. The Relay Center Collection Site is at Radiant Life Church, 500 South Saratoga Street, Marshall, MN. Empty shoeboxes to fill are available by calling 507-223-5076. Volunteers are needed at the relay center site each day, and 2 to 3 able-bodied volunteers are needed to load cartons of filled boxes at noon on Monday, Nov. 22. Call 507-223-5076 to volunteer.

La Crosse Bishop Callahan has contracted COVID-19

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — La Crosse Bishop William Patrick Callahan has contracted COVID-19, according to a church official.

Monsignor Richard Gilles told the parish at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman during Mass on Sunday, that the 71-year-old Callahan is doing OK.

“Our dear Bishop Callahan has COVID, so we certainly want to pray for him. As I understand it, it’s with mild symptoms so we pray that it stays like that and doesn’t get any worse,” Gilles said.

Pope OKs Canada trip to help healing with Indigenous peoples

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has agreed to visit Canada to help efforts at reconciliation with Indigenous peoples following shocking revelations of the Catholic Church’s role in the abuse and deaths of thousands of native children, the Vatican said on Wednesday.

In a brief statement, the Holy See’s press office said the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops invited the pope to make an apostolic journey to Canada “also in the context of the long-standing pastoral process of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.”
