Man weighs whether to continue getting repeat colonoscopies

Dear Dr. Roach: I’m a 78-year-old male with a history of high blood pressure, and I had a bovine aortic valve replacement in 2009. I had a negative colonoscopy in 2003, but in 2013, my colonoscopy required a polypectomy of a 3-mm tubular adenoma. In 2019, my colonoscopy was negative again. I’m concerned with the risks involved in repeat colonoscopies. What is your opinion? -- J.G. It helps to keep the coffee warm ...

When siblings stop showing up

Dear Annie: Thirteen years ago, I started doubting my family’s place in my life. I come from a family of four boys, but only one of my three remaining brothers keeps in touch. My oldest brother is up in years and no longer able to get around. The middle brother and his wife are the only family members who keep in touch. The last brother lives just two miles away; he and his wife will travel 50 miles to see their daughters and their families instead of stopping by to see me. The last time I saw him, the youngest brother, was at his 50th wedding anniversary last October. Recently, ...

Balancing his goals and hers

Dear Annie: My husband and I have been married for 11 years. We’ve always had a solid partnership with no major issues. But lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m just a supporting character in his life. He recently started a new job that he’s passionate about, and while I’m happy for him, everything seems to revolve around his schedule, his goals, his stress. I work full-time, too, and we have two kids, but somehow I’ve become the default parent and household manager while he gets to “focus.” When I try to bring it up, he says he’s just “under a lot of pressure” ...
