Richter looks to lead Lancer girls, boys return core
CANBY — The Canby boys and girls golf teams are off to promising starts for the 2026 season, as they both aim to reach higher success come the postseason behind a group of returners.
The boys team has brought back key contributors from last season, including Lane Citrowske, Isaac Bollerud, Daven Vanengen and Jaxson Ramberg. The Lancers graduated Jack Abrahamson, who was the lone golfer on the boys side to compete at the state tournament last year, who placed 23rd individually with a score of 160.
The key returner for the girls side is Maddison Richter, now a sophomore, as she also competed at state last season. She finished in 26th with a 179.
Richter was also the lone golfer for Canby girls to compete at last year’s Section 3A Tournament, where she had a strong performance of a second-place finish.
But, the girls team is on a good pace to begin the 2026 season, including a second-place team finish at the Camden Conference meet at Minneota on April 21. The Lancers finished close behind Lakeview’s winning score of 206 with a 211.
Individually, Richter led the Lancers and took first place at the meet with a 7-over 43, as she is picking up this season right where she left off last year.
Canby is also seeing good results from Jayda Namken, who placed sixth at Minneota, and Blakely Koenig with a 10-place finish. Gracie Mamer, Karli Weber and Reghan Sanow are also on the team, looking to help lead the Lancers.
At the Camden South meet on April 16, the girls team also came in third place, with Richter again taking first overall with a 6-over 42.
The boys team finished in fourth place at last year’s section tournament, led by Abrahamson’s sixth-place finish to earn his spot at state.
So far this season, the boys team is also off to a good start and secured a second-place finish at the Camden meet at Minneota, finishing 10 strokes behind the Vikings’ first-place finish.
Bollerud, a senior, will look to be a primary leader this season for the Lancers. He finished second individually at Minneota with a 4-over 40. Citrowske will look to do the same, who placed sixth with a 6-over 42.
Ramberg and Vanengen offered strong production as well, placing 11th and 15th, respectively.
Canby also had a runner-up finish at the Camden South invite, where Bollerud led the team in fourth place while Citrowske and Vanegen followed with a tie for fifth.
Both the Canby boys and girls teams will host a home invitational on May 4 with a 4:30 p.m. start at the Canby Golf Club, as the Lancers will look to continue competing in the right direction over the remainder of the regular season.
