ST. PAUL — Minneota and Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo United were well-represented at the second day of the individual state tournament on Friday, sending a combined five wrestlers to the state semifinals. Wrestling continued Friday night but semifinals were not complete at the time of print.

Minneota qualified eight individuals for the state tournament and seven of them are still competing at the time of print.

In the championship bracket, the Vikings have Adam DeVlaeminck, Brock Fier and Randy Sorensen all still competing for state titles after advancing to the semifinals in 139, 172 and 189, respectively.

In the consolation bracket, Minneota also has Heydan Danielson, Blake Mead, Mason Javers and Cael Fier competing for medals while Quinton Anderson fell in the consolation first round.

United had three wrestlers competing in Friday’s Class AA tournament with two of them advancing to the state semifinals. Benjamin Gunlogson advanced in 145 with a 10-2 major decision over Brock Guth and Eli Olson advanced in 114 with a 6-4 decision over Gage Benz. United also still has Kameron Sather competing in the 160-pound consolation bracket.

For Marshall, Brayden Chandler earned a pin of Brayden Boots in 160 to advance to the Class AA semifinals, making him the last Tiger standing in the championship bracket.

Reigning state champion Lincoln Christenson was upset in the 121AA quarterfinals, falling via 7-1 decision to Mound Westonka’s Deacon Rathmun. Christenson bounced back with a 13-2 major decision in the second round of the consolation bracket and next takes on Ryder Antony in the consolation quarterfinals.

Tyler Kraft fell in the quarterfinals to Max Morgan, but also is still competing in the consolation bracket for Marshall, while Keynan Coequyt and Tyson Louwagie were both eliminated in the elimination brackets.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s David Schuh earned a 5-2 decision over Layne Root in the 139 championship bracket, making him one of two area wrestlers in the semifinals in the weight class along with DeVlaeminck. With another win, the two would face off in the state championship.

Fulda/Murray County Central’s Kaston Clarke, Quad County’s Jacob Savig and Canby’s Jordan DePestel are still competing in the consolation bracket. Quintin Lewis and Colby Kesteloot were eliminated for F/MCC while Taylor Squires was for TMB/WWG.

Round 3 wrestlebacks and girls consolation semifinals will begin at 9 a.m. at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul today at 9 a.m. The second session of matches will begin with the third- and fifth-place matches at 1 p.m., followed by the state championship matches.
