Maeyaert’s 20 help Tigers prevail for win over Tea

Marshall 53, Tea Area 51

TEA, S.D. — Levi Maeyaert’s game-high 20 points and four steals helped the Marshall boys basketball team hold off Tea Area, S.D., for a 53-51 nailbiter win Thursday night on the road in the Tigers’ regular-season finale.

Maeyaert had an efficient night all around, and shot 4 of 8 from the perimeter and 62% from the field.

Oliver Voigt also had 12 points along with a team-high eight rebounds, and Patrick Morman added in another 10 points with four boards.

Tea Area finished the night off on a 7-0 run after Marshall had a 53-43 lead with 3:53 left to play. But, the Tigers were able to hold off a final shot at the buzzer to prevail for the win.

Marshall forced 12 turnovers while comitting eight themselves, but were slightly outrebounded 23-21.

The Tigers shot well, however, going 44% from the field and 37% from deep going 7 of 19.

Marshall (14-12) will now await seeding for the Section 2AAA Tournament, to be released in the coming days. The quarterfinals are slated to begin on Tuesday at the higher seed.

No. 8 RRC 73, No. 9 HLOF 65

RRC — The No. 8 Red Rock Central boys basketball team opened up the postseason with a 73-64 win over No. 9 Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Thursday night in the Section 3A South subsection play-in round.

Henry Stavnes led the Falcons with 41 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the win while Finn Batalden added another 18 points with three steals. Jordan Therkilsen finished with four assists and four steals as well.

The Falcons (7-20) will next take on top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek (23-3) in the subsection quarterfinals on Saturday at Worthington High School with an 11 a.m. tip off.

No. 7 TMB 72, No. 10 A/E 60

TRACY — Three players scored in double figures to help power the No. 7 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team to a 72-60 postseason win over No. 10 Adrian/Ellsworth Thursday night in the Section 3A South subsection play-in round.

Griffin Zick led the charge with 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting, and also went 4 of 5 from the foul line. He also dished out a team-best five assists and grabbed four steals, only behind Connor Lanoue’s team-high of five.

Lanoue followed with 11 points on 50% shooting with seven rebounds, while Jackson Kruse added in another 13 points with a team-high eight boards.

TMB shot 42% from the field and held the Dragons to 38%, and dominated on the defensive end with 15 steals to A/E’s seven.

The Panthers notably also outrebounded A/E 41-25 overall, and 14-0 on the offensive glass.

TMB (12-15) will now turn its attention to the subsection quarterfinals, where it will next take on second-seeded Southwest Minnesota Christian (22-4) on Saturday at Worthington High School at 2:30 p.m.

No. 8 LQPV 74, No. 9 Canby 69

MADISON — The No. 9 Canby boys basketball team’s season came to an end Thursday night after coming up just short to No. 8 Lac qui Parle Valley 74-69 in the Section 3A South subsection play-in round.

Owen Peterson led the way with 28 points on 48% shooting, along with four assists. He also grabbed six boards.

Will Abrahamson followed with 13 points on 71% shooting going 5 of 7 from the field, with a team-high four steals and seven rebounds. Jace Rangaard also added in another 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting.

Canby finishes its season 6-18 overall, and graduates its senior duo in Casey Hoiland and Karter Potz.
