Guetter, Frericks help Wabasso hand No. 9 Benson first loss of season

Wabasso 99, No. 9 Benson 60
BENSON — The Wabasso boys basketball team gave ninth-ranked Benson its first loss of the season Friday night in dominating fashion with a 99-60 win.
Brayden Guetter and Caden Frericks led the Rabbits with 27 and 24 points, respectively, with Frericks notching a double-double with a team-high 17 rebounds.
Tavyn Larson also grabbed another 11 rebounds to his 5 points with a team-best six assists, while Jayden Remiger protected the paint with an impressive five blocks.
Drew Kemp also finished with 17 points with five assists.
Guetter and Kemp shared a team-high of three 3-pointers.
Wabasso finished with 57 rebounds and 11 steals, along with dishing out 25 assists on its 41 field goals.
Benson entered the night 17-0 on the season before facing the Rabbits.
Wabasso (20-2) plays its final road game of the regular season on Tuesday, heading to Morgan for a matchup against Cedar Mountain (2-15) at 7:30 p.m.
Marshall 62, No. 10 St. Peter 56
ST. PETER — Patrick Morman’s 30 points and four steals held the Marshall boys basketball team pick up its second win in three games with a 62-56 defeat over No. 10 St. Peter Friday night on the road in a Big South Conference matchup.
Morman finished the night shooting 73% from the field and went 3 of 4 from deep.
The Tigers’ defense played a key role in the win, outrebounding the Saints 23-19, particularly 8-2 on the offensive glass to create more second-chance opportunities. They also had nine steals to St. Peter’s four.
Levi Maeyaert added in another 11 points behind a pair of 3s with four rebounds, while Oliver Voigt followed with 9 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Marshall shot 44% from the field and went 6 of 17 from the perimeter, and 12 of 18 from the foul line. St. Peter finished with a 52% shooting clip in the field, went 3 of 12 from deep and 7 of 9 at the charity stripe.
Both teams finished with 14 turnovers.
Marshall (9-10) hosts Redwood Valley (3-19) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. for its penultimate home game of the regular season.
Minneota 68, TMB 67
MINNEOTA — The Minneota boys basketball team showed resiliency in a comeback 68-67 Camden Conference win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Friday night. The Vikings overcame a 17-point halftime deficit and outshot the Panthers 46-28 in the second half.
Minneota came out of the locker room at halftime down 39-22, and continued to chip away before ultimately getting the final shot off at the end to complete the come-from-behind win.
Easton Johnston led Minneota with 15 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Tristen Sussner followed with 14 points and another nine rebounds with a team-high four steals.
Jase Sorensen also added in 11 points and a pair of steals.
Minneota shot 36% from the field and held TMB to 31%, and outrebounded the Panthers 46-36.
For the Panthers, Griffin Zick led the way with 21 points and five assists. Connor Lanoue followed with 12 points and a team-best eight rebounds, while Emery Xiong went 3 of 6 from deep to finish with 13 points.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (8-11) returns to its home court to host Murray County Central (1-5) for a non-conference game today at 3:30 p.m. The Panthers will play five of their final seven games at home.
Minneota (6-14) hits the road to take on Canby (4-14) in its next game on Monday at 7 p.m.
WWG 68, Adrian/Ellsworth 44
ADRIAN — Jackson Jenniges’ six 3-pointers and 20 points powered the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team to a 68-44 Red Rock Conference win over Adrian/Ellsworth Friday night.
Drew Swanson also finished in double-figure scoring with 19 points and went 8 of 10 from the free throw line. Him and Jenniges also had eight rebounds apiece in the win.
Neil Kuehl led the Chargers with 10 rebounds and four assists to his 9 points.
WWG finished with 10 3-pointers, and went 10 for 12 at the foul line.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (12-8) now turns its attention to the Yellow Medicine East Sting (3-16) for its next game on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
No. 10 Dawson-Boyd 82, KMS 81
KERKHOVEN — Jaxton Hastad and Gunner Liebl combined for 57 points to help the No. 10 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team prevail for an 82-81 competitive Camden Conference win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Friday night.
Liebl finished with a team-high 31 points on 63% shooting from the field and went 4 of 8 from the perimeter. He also led with six assists to his six rebounds.
Hastad followed with another 26 points on 55% shooting and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for another double-double performance. He also dished out five assists.
Carson Stratmoen finished with 7 points behind a pair of 3-pointers, along with four rebounds and four assists.
Both teams finished with 32 rebounds, while the Blackjacks shot more efficiently at 53% from the field as a team while holding KMS to 45%.
The win marks five straight for the Blackjacks.
Dawson-Boyd (17-3) hosts Ortonville (8-12) for its next game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
