Stensrud reaches 1k points in win over DB

DAWSON — Brynn Stensrud scored her 1,000th career point on Monday as the Lakers picked up a 94-74 win over Dawson-Boyd.

Stensrud finished the night with 23 points on 9 of 15 shooting, as well as four assists and five rebounds.

Anah Schmidt also had a big night for the Lakers with a 25-point, 12-rebound double-double. Schmidt shot 12 of 18 from the field and three of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.

Brook Gunlogson also scored 13 points, followed by 12 from Addyson Jorgenson and 11 from Emma Brusven. Gunlogson also contributed seven steals while Jorgenson dished out four assists.

Aubrey Nething grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

Claire Stratmoen led Dawson-Boyd with 24 points on 8of 16 shooting from the field and 4 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc.

Lakeview improves to 10-2 and aims to pick up its fourth straight win when it hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (9-2) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., while Dawson-Boyd falls to 4-7 and next hosts Benson (6-3) tonight at 7:15 p.m.

Lakeview 54, RTR 50

COTTONWOOD — Anah Schmidt’s near-double-double helped the Lakeview girls basketball team come from behind to pick up a 54-50 non-conference win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Saturday.

The Lakers trailed 28-20 at halftime, but outscored the Knights by 12 points after the break to surge ahead.

Schmidt led the Lakers with 15 points on 7 of 17 shooting as well as a game-high eight rebounds with three blocks. Brynn Stensrud also scored 16 points on 5 of 14 shooting with four rebounds and a pair of steals, while Brooke Gunlogson dished out seven assists and came away with seven steals on the defensive end.

Brezlyn Buchert and Paisley Thooft led RTR with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Thooft scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half, tying the rest of the team’s total.

Wabasso 81, TMB 66

TRACY — Four Rabbits scored in double figures on Monday night as the Wabasso girls basketball team earned an 81-66 non-conference win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Kenley Guetter led the Wabasso attack with 21 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field. Sara Carlson also shot 5 of 7 from 3-point range, tying Elizabeth Morin for second on the team with 15 points, while Ava Samyn added another 14 points.

Gretchen Lanoue gave her all to keep the Panthers in the game, finishing with 30 points on 11 of 17 shooting. Melaina Ankrum also contributed 11 points with seven assists and nine rebounds in the loss.

Cassie Bliss’ five assists were a team-high for Wabasso.

Wabasso improves to 5-7 and aims to get another step closer to .500 when it hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (4-3) tonight at 6 p.m. while Tracy-Milroy-Balaton falls to 3-8 and looks to bounce back when it hosts Dawson-Boyd (4-7) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Wabasso 45, RRC 30

LAMBERTON — Kenley Guetter grabbed 21 rebounds and scored 17 points to lead the Wabasso girls basketball team to a 45-30 win over Red Rock Central in non-conference play on Saturday.

Guetter shot 8 of 19 from the field and dished out four assists in the win. Her 12 offensive rebounds were more than RRC’s team total of nine. The Rabbits outrebounded RRC 52-31 in the game.

Cassie Bliss also scored 14 points with six rebounds for Wabasso.

Celia Vogel had a well-rounded game for the Falcons with four steals, five assists and 4 points. Brai Olson led RRC’s scorers with 10 points while Kendra Schoreder grabbed eight rebounds with four steals.

YME 63, LQPV 36

MADISON — The balanced scoring efforts of Bailey Mortenson, Alana Almich and Bayli Sneller led the Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team to a 63-36 win over Lac qui Parle Valley on Monday night.

Mortenson scored a game-high 18 points on 7 of 17 shooting for the Sting while Almich and Sneller chipped in 17 and 15, respectively. Sneller shot 4 of 8 from beyond the arc while Almich shot 3 of 9 from 3-point range.

Almich also finished the night with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Four of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.

YME improves to 4-7 and hosts MACCRAY (5-3) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Canby 66, Montevideo 28

CANBY — An all-around team effort helped the Canby girls basketball team run away with a 66-28 win over Montevideo on Saturday.

Rachel Jelen had an efficient night from the Lancers’ knocking down three of her five field-goal attempts for 8 points while also snagging a team-leading eight rebounds.

Jordyn Jostock made a defensive impact with six steals and a block, as well as logging four assists and five rebounds. Her 13 points tied Addison Driessen for second on the team to Brynn Kockelman’s 17.

Canby improves to 3-7 and next hosts Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Edgerton 47, RRC 22

LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Central girls basketball team fell 47-22 against Edgerton in Red Rock Conference play on Monday night.

Kendra Schroeder scored 11 points with four rebounds for the Falcons while Paige Wondercheck snagged 12 rebounds.

Red Rock Central falls to 1-8and hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove (5-3) tonight at 7:30 p.m.

WABASSO — Brayden Guetter, Drew Kemp and Caden Frericks each scored 20 or more points for the No. 10 Wabasso boys basketball team on Monday night as the Rabbits ran away with an 80-48 non-conference win over Minneota.

Guetter and Kemp each scored 21 points in the game, coming on 8 of 12 shooting with five 3s for Kemp and 10 of 18 shooting for Guetter. Frericks also scored 20 points on 10 of 13 shooting.

Frericks also made a major impact on the glass with 19 rebounds, leading Wabasso to a 41-24 rebounding advantage. Frericks had seven of the Rabbits’ 17 defensive rebounds while Minneota finished with a team total of nine offensive boards.

Guetter also logged a double-double with 10 assists while Jack Burns dished out another seven.

Kyson Arndt was Minneota’s leading scorer with 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting and his five rebounds trailed only Hunter Carstensen’s eight.

Wabasso improves to 9-0 and next hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (1-6) tonight at 7:30 p.m. while Minneota falls to 2-6 and aims to end its three-game skid when it goes on the road to take on Renville County West (7-2) tonight at the same time.

Sioux Valley (S.D.) 71, TMB 37

MADISON — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team had no answer for Sioux Valley (S.D.) in a non-conference matchup on Saturday. The Panthers fell behind by 20 points at halftime and lost 71-37.

Sy Sanders was the Panthers’ leading scorer on the day, shooting 4 of 6 from the field for 8 points. Aidan Sanow dished out a game-high five assists and grabbed four rebounds.

TMB falls to 5-4 and next heads to Granite Falls to take on Yellow Medicine East (1-7) tonight at 7:15 p.m.

No. 10 Wabasso 93, RRC 68

LAMBERTON — Brayten Guetter logged a 38-point, 13-rebound double-double on Saturday as the No. 10 Wabasso boys basketball team ran away with a 93-68 non-conference win over Red Rock Central.

Guetter’s gaudy scoring numbers came on 14 of 23 shooting from the field with a pair of 3s and 8 of 11 shooting from the charity stripe. Five of his rebounds came on the offensive glass, and his five assists and two blocks were also both team-highs.

Caden Frericks led the Rabbits’ rebounding efforts with 24 total and eight offensive rebounds. he also couldn’t miss from the field, shooting 8 of 9 to tie Drew Kemp for second on the team with 16 points.

While it wasn’t enough for the win, Henry Stavnes put together another big game for Red Rock Central. He knocked ddown four 3-pointers en route to a total of 32 points in the game.

Tavyn Larson also blocked five shots with 10 points for Wabasso.

No. 7 Dawson-Boyd 81, SWMC 67

DAWSON — Landon Malecek stuffed the stat sheet for the Wabasso boys basketball team on Saturday in a non-conference matchup against Southwest Minnesota Christian. The junior forward’s 24 points, six blocks and 15 rebounds were all game-highs as the Blackjacks pulled away from a 46-all tie at halftime for an 81-67 win.

Malecek was efficient with his scoring, shooting 9 of 10 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed seven of his 15 rebounds on the offensive glass, accounting for over half of the team’s total of 13.

Gunner Liebl also scored 23 points on 9 of 17 shooting with five assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Jaxton Hastad and Carson Stratmoen added 13 and 14 points, respectively.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 8-1 on the season and next hosts No. 8 Central Minnesota Christian (8-0) tonight at 7:15 p.m.
