POOL PLAY

Marshall 10, Becker 4

Andrew Stelter reached base in each of his four plate appearances on the day as the Tigers rolled to a 10-4 win over Becker in the tournament opener.

Marshall got just about all the offense it needed on the day in the top of the first. Walks to Andrew Stelter, Ethan Weedman and Trae Bailey drew consecutive walks to load the bases after the game’s first three at-bats.

With one out, Tyler Kraft got the scoring started with a two-run double. Becker got a shallow fly out to put two away, but a passed ball and a Cannon Craigmile RBI single brought the score to 4-0.

Becker answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but Marshall got a run back when Ethan Boeck singled and scored on a Weedman double in the second. Becker added a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame again, but Marshall’s pitching and defense shut them out the rest of the way.

Andrew Lee threw all five innings of the win, striking out six batters while giving up four earned runs on seven hits and three walks.

Marshall’s offense picked up again in the fourth, scoring four runs on a Bailey RBI single, a two-run double by Lee and Kraft scoring on a passed ball. The Mudcats capped off the game’s scoring in the fifth when Boeck tripled and scored on a Stelter single.

Stelter finished the game with a double, two singles and an RBI. Kraft, Craigmile and Boeck each also contributed a pair of hits, including a triple for Boeck and a double for Kraft.
