Marshall gymnastics places 5th at Winterfest

MARSHALL — The Marshall gymnastics team wasn’t able to pick up a win at the Winterfest meet on Monday, finishing fifth out of five teams with 112.45 points. Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg won the event with 132.5 points, followed by Pipestone at 127.875, Luverne at 126.225 and Redwood Valley at 125.25.
Shyann Murphy was the Tigers’ top individual, placing 13th all-around out of 43 gymnasts at 30.625. She placed eighth in the bars at 7.575, 15th on the floor at 7.9, 18th on the beam at 7.025 and 19th in the vault at 8.125.
Raya Goergen placed eight on the beam for Marshall with a score of 7.575, and ended the day 22nd overall at 27.2.
Emma Manke and Kiera DeRuyter placed 21st and 23rd all-around, respectively, at 27.55 and 26.875.
Manke scored 8.1 to place 20th on the vault and a 7.65 to place 20th on the floor.
DeRuyter put together her best finish on the bar, placing 23rd at 5.7. She also placed 26th in the vault at 7.8.
Marshall next competes again tonight, going on the road to Worthington at 6 p.m.
