Marshall cruises past Worthington in 89-16 victory

No. 6 Marshall 89, Worthington 16
WORTHINGTON — Reese Drake, Taleigha Bigler and Avery Schneekloth’s combined 44 points helped lead the No. 6 Marshall girls basketball team to a dominant 89-16 Big South Conference win against Worthington Tuesday night on the road.
Drake led the Tigers with 17 points, shooting 3 of 4 from deep, and seven assists along with three steals, as Schneekloth followed with 16 points. Bigler finished with 11 points, six assists and a team-high six rebounds.
Both Bigler and Landry Graven led Marshall with four steals each.
Avery Fahl also had the hot hand from the perimeter, finishing with 9 points after going 3 for 3 from deep.
Marshall got ahead promptly and early, limiting the Trojans to just 9 first-half points, with a 65-9 lead at halftime.
The Tigers’ selfless play shined once again with 26 assists on their 35 field goals, along with grabbing 24 steals and forcing 30 Worthington turnovers.
Marshall (13-2) returns to its home court to open a four-game homestand on Friday, taking on Tri-City United (6-8) at 7:15 p.m.
MACCRAY 76, TMB 33
CLARA CITY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team suffered a 76-33 Camden Conference loss on the road to MACCRAY Tuesday night.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (5-11) next competes on Friday 7:30 p.m., kicking off a four-game homestand with a matchup against Ortonville (0-16)
No. 10 CMC 80, Canby 60
PRINSBURG — The Canby girls basketball team came up short in an 80-60 Camden Conference loss to No. 10 Central Minnesota Christian Tuesday night.
Canby (6-10) next competes on Thursday when it takes on Border West (3-9) in Graceville at 7:15 p.m.
WWG 54, SWMC 40
EDGERTON — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team picked up its third-straight win Tuesday night, defeating Southwest Minnesota Christian 54-40 in a Red Rock Conference game.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (9-6) gets back to the court on Thursday when it hosts No. 8 Hills-Beaver Creek (13-1) at 6 p.m.
KMS 64, Minneota 58
KERKHOVEN — Jaylyn Coequyt and Eden Meagher combined for 32 points and 20 rebounds, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Minneota girls basketball team fell short 64-58 to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Tuesday night in a Camden Conference matchup.
Coequyt led the Vikings with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Meagher followed with 15 points and eight boards. Libby Sussner also tallied 11 points, while Autum Anderson facilitated the offense with a team-high seven assists to her 6 points.
Minneota committed 26 turnovers on the night to KMS’ 21, and were also held scoreless from deep. The Fighting Saints finished with 5 3-pointers.
Overall, Minneota shot 37% from the field and KMS finished with a 39% shooting mark.
Minneota (8-6) heads to Luverne on Thursday to take on the Cardinals (8-8) at 7 p.m.
Lakeview 68, Ortonville 28
ORTONVILLE — 12 different players scored to power the Lakeview girls basketball team to its fifth-straight win with a 68-28 defeat over Ortonville Tuesday night in a Camden Conference matchup.
Anah Schmidt led the Lakers with 18 points on 61% shooting to her four rebounds, as Brynn Stensrud followed with 11 points and a team-high three assists.
Brynn Lundin also scored 8 points, while Addyson Jorgenson led Lakeview on the glass with six rebounds.
Lakeview finished with 16 steals on the night, led by three from both Brook Gunlogson and Reagan Bossuyt.
The Lakers limited Ortonville to 8 first-half points, and finished the night shooting 44% from the field.
Lakeview (15-3) takes on one of southwest Minnesota’s top teams in its next matchup, facing off against No. 10 Central Minnesota Christian (11-2) in Cottonwood on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd 79, YME 69
DAWSON — Alyssa Swedzinski and Claire Stratmoen’s 47 combined points powered the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team to a 79-69 Camden Conference win over Yellow Medicine East Tuesday night.
Swedzinski led the Blackjacks with 26 points and shot a game-high 6 for 8 from deep, along with her seven rebounds.
Stratmoen also had a big night with 21 points on 72% shooting, going 8 for 11 from the field, and had a team-high five assists and nine rebounds.
Kylar Hjelmeland also finished in double-figures with 14 points behind four 3-pointers.
Dawson-Boyd shot efficiently from both the field and perimeter at 47% and 53% shooting clips, respectively. YME finished the night shooting 39% from the field and 22% from 3.
The Sting stayed within reach the entire night, and were down just 9 points at halftime, 40-31.
Bayli Sneller led YME with 26 points and four 3-pointers, and also shot 6 for 6 from the foul line.
Charlotte Paslawski and Bailey Mortenson finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Alana Almich added in another 12 points.
Mortenson also led the Sting with nine rebounds, and shared a team-high three steals with Sneller.
Yellow Medicine East (6-11) returns to action on Monday when it heads to Westbrook for a non-conference matchup against Westbrook-Walnut Grove (9-6) at 7:15 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd (8-8) goes on the road for a matchup against Canby (6-10) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
Springfield 59, Wabasso 50
WABASSO — Kenley Guetter notched an 18-point, 18-rebound double-double along with five blocks, but the Wabasso girls basketball team couldn’t quite finish on top in a 59-50 Tomahawk Conference loss to Springfield Tuesday night.
Ava Samyn followed with 14 points and six rebounds, while Cassie Bliss also grabbed another seven boards with a team-high four steals for the Rabbits.
Wabasso committed 15 turnovers on the night.
The Rabbits (6-13) goes back on the road for its next game, facing off against Sleepy Eye (10-8) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
