Tigers dominate glass in win over Trojans

WORTHINGTON — The Marshall boys basketball team controlled all aspects of the court to cruise to a 79-46 win over Worthington on the road Thursday night, powered by Oliver Voigt’s 21 points and the Tigers outrebounding the Trojans 31-10.

Voigt’s 21 points came off an impressive 89% shooting clip from the field, going 8 for 9. Davion Xayarath also finished in double figures with 12 points, while Carson Mensink and Noah Pieper followed with another 8 points apiece.

Marshall distributed the ball well with 17 assists on its 31 field goals, while the Trojans had just two assists.

Jack Bly had a team-high nine rebounds, while Patrick Morman and Xayarath each had a pair of steals.

22 of the Tigers rebounds also came from the defensive end, as they also held Worthington to no offensive boards.

Marshall moves to 3-0 to start the season, and next hosts Tri-City United (0-4) for its home opener tonight at 7:15 p.m.

No. 5 Dawson-Boyd 89, Ortonville 51

ORTONVILLE — Jaxton Hastad exploded for a game-high 35 points on 80% shooting to lead the fifth-ranked Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to an 89-51 win over Ortonville Thursday night.

Hastad shot 16 for 20 on the night, and also tallied eight rebounds and four assists. Landon Malecek logged a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Gunner Liebl did a little bit of everything with 18 points, a team-high eight assists, and five rebounds.

The Blackjacks took control of the game early on with a 45-24 halftime lead and never took their foot off the gas.

Cale Tufto also finished in double figures with 10 points, while Carson Stratmoen dished another five assists.

Dawson-Boyd managed the glass the entire night and heavily outrebounded Ortonville 41-19, including 29 defensive boards.

The Blackjacks shot 54% from the field and 36% from the perimeter, and held Ortonville to 36% from the field and 18% at the 3.

Dawson-Boyd (4-0) will look to keep the ball rolling when it hosts Morris Area-Chokio-Alberta (3-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

RCW 90, Canby 59

CANBY — Three Lancers scored in double figures in the Canby boys basketball team’s Camden Conference matchup against Renville County West on Thursday night, but it was the Jaguars that came out on top in the end with a 90-59 win.

Jace Rangaard led the Lancers scorers with 17 points, followed by 15 from Owen Peterson and 12 from Hunter Kack. Rangaard also grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds, including two on the offensive glass, while Will Abrahamson dished out four assists.

Canby (1-2) gets back on the road on Tuesday, traveling to Tracy to take on the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers (2-1) at 7:15 p.m.

No. 4 HBC 87, RRC 52

HILLS — Henry Stavnes’ 27-point outburst wasn’t enough to put the Red Rock Central boys basketball team over the top against No. 4 Hills-Beaver Creek on Thursday as the Patriots downed the Falcons 87-52 in Red Rock Conference play.

Jake Erickson made an impact on the glass for the Falcons with nine rebounds while Brekken Determan dished out five assists. Jordan Therkilsen also scored 10 points in the loss.

Red Rock Central (0-4) will look to get in the win column on Thursday when it heads to Okabena for a face-off against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (0-4) at 7:15 p.m.
