RTR 63, A/E 47
TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team pulled away for a lopsided win over Adrian/Ellsworth on Thursday night, claiming a 63-47 win in Red Rock Conference play.
RTR improves to 2-3 on the season with the win and looks to keep its momentum rolling when it heads to Edgerton on Tuesday for a matchup against Southwest Minnesota Christian (1-3) at 7:15 p.m.
Hancock 57, Canby 50
HANCOCK — Brynn Kockelman led the way with 18 points, four assists and three steals, but the Canby girls basketball team came up short in a competitive battle against Hancock 57-50 Thursday night.
Ava Danielson followed with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, as did Addison Driessen with another 10 points.
Turnovers hurt the Lancers, finishing the night with 18, but matched up competitively on the defensive end with the Owls with 32 total rebounds to their 31.
Both Kockelman and Driessen also shot a team-best 2 for 5 from the perimeter as well.
Canby falls to 0-3, and will return home today to host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-2) with a 7:15 p.m. tipoff.
Edgerton 52, MCC 44
SLAYTON — The Murray County Central girls basketball team put up a fight in a back-and-forth battle, but ultimately suffered a 52-44 loss Thursday night against Edgerton.
The Rebels move to 4-2, dropping their last two games after a 3-0 start, and will next look to turn things back around when MCC hits the road to Hills-Beaver Creek (3-0) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
MLAC 57, WWG 40
MT. LAKE — Solid scoring performances from Carlie Ross and Hadley Jenniges weren’t enough to get the Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team in the win column on Thursday night as the Chargers fell 57-40 to Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey in Red Rock Conference play.
Ross was the Chargers’ leading scorer with 12 points in the game, 7 of which came in the second half. Jenniges and Leah Carter added 10 and 8, respectively, each knocking down a pair of 3-point attempts.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove falls to 3-3 on the season and aims to get back above .500 when it heads to Lamberton to take on Red Rock Central (0-5) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
LQPV 54, Wabasso 51
WABASSO — Kenley Guetter dominated the glass for the Wabasso girls basketball team on Thursday night, but the Rabbits still fell short of the non-conference win against Lac qui Parle Valley. Guetter finished the night with 14 total and four offensive rebounds, pacing the Rabbits to a 38-30 edge on the glass, but the Eagles came away with the 54-51 win.
In addition to her rebounding efforts, Guetter also dished out a team-leading five assists on two turnovers, and logged two steals and a block on the defensive end of the court.
Elizabeth Morin led Wabasso’s scoring efforts with 15 points on 6 of 14 shooting in the game. She was one of five Rabbits to knock down a 3-pointer and recorded three steals in the game.
Kayleigha Johnson added 9 points on 4 of 9 shooting for the Rabbits.
Wabasso falls to 1-4 on the season and looks to bounce back when it hosts Sleepy Eye (3-3) tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Benson 64, Dawson-Boyd 53
BENSON — Claire Stratmoen and Kylar Hjelmeland combined for 31 points, yet it wasn’t quite enough as the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team fell just short to Benson 64-53 Thursday night.
Stratmoen led the way with team-highs of 18 points and five rebounds, while Hjelmeland followed with another 13 points.
Dawson-Boyd and Benson were locked up 30-30 at halftime, but Benson shot slightly more efficiently from the field at 38% to seal the win. The Blackjacks shot 27%.
Alivia Estling had another four rebounds for the Blackjacks.
Dawson-Boyd falls to 1-3, and will next look to get back in the win column when it stays on the road to take on Lac qui Parle Valley today at 7:15 p.m.
SWMC 76, RRC 50
LAMBERTON — The Red Rock Central girls basketball team couldn’t get over the top against Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday, falling 76-50 in Red Rock Conference play.
Celia Vogel and Kysha Wani led the Falcon offense with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Vogel also logged three steals and three assists while Wani contributed another four boards.
Paige Wondercheck finished with eight rebounds and six points.
Red Rock Central falls to 0-5 on the season and looks to get in the win column when it hosts Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (2-1) for the second of five consecutive home games tonight at 7:30 p.m.
