Mauch’s 6 points lead Tigers past Fairmont 7-1

FAIRMONT — Brooklyn Mauch finished with 6 points between another hat trick performance and three assists to lead the Marshall girls hockey team past Fairmont 7-1 on the road Tuesday night. The Tigers’ tenacious offensive effort showed up big once again, outshooting the Cardinals 68-16 on shot attempts.

After a competitive first period with Marshall holding a 2-1 edge, the Tigers exploded with a three-goal second period to take charge and didn’t allow Fairmont to find the back of the net the rest of the way.

Lily Stelter had 15 saves on the night with a .938 save percentage, while Alexis Sundeen for Fairmont had the tall task of 61 saves.

Along with Mauch, Abbey Foley also had a pair of goals along with an assist for three points.

Mauch scored two of her three goals promptly in the opening period, both on even strength, and scored the first goal of the second period to finish her hat trick.

Abbey Foley also scored her two goals back-to-back in the second following Mauch to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead going into the final period.

Both of Abbey Foley’s goals were assisted by Mauch.

Elsie Deutz got in on the scoring as well in the third period with an assist from Brianna Foley and Nora Holmgren, while Ava Kolander put the dagger on the win for the final goal of the night with assists from Abbey Foley and Mauch.

Fairmont had three penalties on the night, while Marshall had two. All were minor.

Marshall now stands at 8-1 on the season, with its lone loss coming from Albert Lea 4-3 on Nov. 24.

The Tigers will next return back home to the Red Baron Arena when they host Luverne (3-3) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
