MARSHALL — A quality performance from Shyann Murphy wasn’t enough to put the Marshall gymnastics team on top in its season opener against Martin County Area on Thursday. Murphy placed third all-around in the dual but Marshall lost 128.225-110.625.

Murphy logged an all-around score of 28.85, including a third-place finish in the bars at 7.1 and a fourth-place finish on the floor at 7.85.

Raya Goergen and Kiera DeRuyter also placed fifth and sixth for Marshall all-around at 27.075 and 26.975, while Emma Manke rounded out the team’s scorers in eighth at 21.3.

Marshall next competes on Friday, Dec. 12 at Waseca at 6 p.m.
