MCC 71, RRC 43
SLAYTON — Carter Hanson and Dugan Kluis combined for 37 points for the Murray County Central boys basketball team on Thursday night, giving the Rebels a 71-43 win over Red Rock Central in Red Rock Conference play.
Hanson shot 6 of 10 from the field in the win, also dishing out five assists in addition to his scoring contributions. His four steals tied Cayden Veldhuisen for a team-high.
Henry Stavnes led the Falcons with 22 points, along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Finn Batalden chipped in 15 points.
Wyatt Thompson led MCC on the glass with 13 total rebounds and four blocks, while Daneil Larson added another seven rebounds. Hanson and Tristan Behrends each grabbed six rebounds.
MCC improves to 1-0 with the win and goes on the road to take on Pipestone Area (0-1) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
RRC falls to 0-3 and returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Adrian/Ellsworth (0-2) in Lamberton at 7:30 p.m.
Wabasso 92,
Lakeview 61
WABASSO — Drew Kemp scored 29 points with 10 assists for the Wabasso boys basketball team in a non-conference matchup against Lakeview on Thursday, leading the Rabbits to a 92-61 win.
In addition to Kemp, Brayden Guetter contributed 18 points for the Rabbits while Caden Frericks and Brooke Baune chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.
Frericks also grabbed a game-high 10 total rebounds, leading the Rabbits to a 28-20 edge on the glass, and his four steals helped the Rabbits to a 9-24 turnover battle win. His five assists tied Nolan Leopold for a team-high.
Trevor Tusberg carried the scoring load for Lakeview, finishing with 23 points, while Cody Helmke added another 17.
Wabasso improves to 3-0 with the win and returns to Tomahawk Conference play on Tuesady, hosting Springfield at 7:30 p.m.
Lakeview falls to 2-1 and gets back in action on Tuesday when it welcomes Camden Conference-foe Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (1-0) into Cottonwood at 7:30 p.m.
WWG 74, MLAC 54
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Drew Swanson led the way with 28 points, eight assists and four steals to lead the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team to a 74-54 victory Thursday night.
Max Wiborg and Connor Jackels also combined for another 30 points, with Wiborg scoring 18 and Jackels tallying another 12.
Wiborg also had a team-high of 10 rebounds, while Jackson Jenniges had eight rebounds and Neil Kuehl had another four steals. Jenniges also scored 8 points.
The Chargers held onto a slight 33-27 halftime lead, but exploded in the second half to outshot MLAC to surge ahead.
WWG moves to 1-1 to begin the season, and will next have its home opener when hosting Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (1-1) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Benson 76, YME 19
BENSON — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team struggled to get momentum going in a 76-19 loss to Benson Thursday night on the road.
Sophomore guard Calen Almich had a team-high 6 points, while senior Wyatt Ansell led with six rebounds, five of which were defensive.
Judah Preuss had 4 points with a pair of steals.
YME (0-2) will look to pick up a win when it returns home today to host Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (1-1) at 7:15 p.m.
