Marshall gymnastics defeat Windom behind strong bars, beam performance

MARSHALL — The Marshall girls gymnastics team came away with a big win over Windom-Mountain Lake in a home meet Monday night, scoring 113.175 to the Cobras’ 106.2. Shyann Murphy led all-around in the competition with a total of 29.225.
The Tigers especially stood out in the bars and beam event, taking the first three finishes in both.
Raya Goergen finished in first place with a 6.8 for beam, while Emma Manke followed close behind in second with a 6.7, as did Murphy with a 6.55 for third place.
Murphy led all competitors in bars with a first-place finish with a score of 6.95. Goergen finished runner-up in the event with 6.8, and Kiera DeRuyter took third after 6.5 points.
In vault and floor, Murphy led the Tigers in both events with an 8.075 third-place finish and took first in floor with a 7.65. Windom’s Courtney Schroeder also tied for first on floor with Murphy.
Goergen followed Murphy to finish the night overall in second place with a 28.5, and DeRuyter took fourth place with a score of 27.875.
Marshall will look to keep the good momentum going when it next hosts a meet Jan. 3 at 4 p.m. at the middle school. Benson, Luverne, Pipestone Area, Windom and Redwood Valley will all be participating in the competition.
