Marshall girls bounce back with big win over TCU

No. 3 Marshall 83, TCU 41
MONTGOMERY — The Marshall girls basketball bounced back from a Thursday loss with a dominant Big South Conference win over Tri-City United on Friday. After falling to Class 4A No. 1 on Thursday in non-conference play, the Tigers built up a 35-point halftime lead en route to an 83-41 win over the TCU Titans.
Avery Schneekloth finished the night as Marshall’s leading scorer, logging 20 points on 9 of 10 shooting from the field.
Danielle Nubile led the Tigers’ efforts on the glass with six rebounds and also finished second on the team 15 points. Her three assists also tied her with Sydney Towne for second on the team to Reese Drake’s six.
Taleigha Bigler snagged five steals on the night, helping Marshall to a 10-23 edge in the turnover battle, while also scoring 13 points.
Drake scored 14 points while Fahl and Maddie Panka each chipped in 8.
Bentley Krull blocked a pair of shots while Nubile blocked one.
Marshall (4-1) next hosts Worthington (2-2) on Monday at 7:15 p.m. before going on the road to take on a Delano (4-3) squad that received votes in the latest Class 3A poll.
Lakeview 75, Minneota 67
COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview girls basketball team continued to turn defense into offense during its Camden Conference matchup against Minneota on Friday night. The Lakers forced 29 turnovers while committing just 16, taking advantage of those extra opportunities to the tune of a 75-67 win.
Emma Brusven led the Lakers’ defensive efforts with four steals, followed by three from Addyson Jorgenson and another two each from Jovie Benson and Reagan Bossuyt.
On the defensive interior, Anah Schmidt was once again a dominant presence, blocking four shots and coming away with a steal. Her six rebounds also were third on the team behind Jorgenson’s eight and Aubrey Nething’s seven.
Brynn Stensrud led the Lakeview scoring efforts with 20 points, shooting 7 of 12 from the field and knocking down five of her seven attempts from beyond the arc. Brusven and Brooke Gunlogson also scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, with Gunlogson dishing out four assists.
For the Vikings, Jaylyn Coequyt led the way with 17 points. Eden Meagher and Autum Anderson also scored another 12 points apiece, while Sarah Gruenes added another 11.
Stensrud’s ability to shoot the 3 was a difference-maker in the game. The Lakers shot 10 of 23 from beyond the arc while Minneota shot 1 of 12.
Meagher and Libby Sussner tied with a game-high 11 rebounds each, including five on the offensive glass, while Coequyt contributed another seven total rebounds. Anderson also dished out four assists on three turnovers.
Minneota (3-1) hosts Renville County West (1-6) for its next game on Thursday at 7 p.m., while Lakeview (4-1) heads out on the road to take on Montevideo (0-4) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Canby 60, TMB 38
CANBY — Brynn Kockelman’s 23 points and Ava Danielson’s six steals powered the Canby girls basketball team to its first win of the season, defeating Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 62-38.
Ava Danielson followed Kockelman with another 17 points, while Kockelman also had a team-high of four assists and trio of 3-pointers. Emily Nelson added in another 8 points.
Danielson’s defense troubled the Panthers, who also had a pair of blocks along with her steals.
The Lancers also had 10 assists on their 25 field goals.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-3) next hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (3-3) tonight at 4 p.m. while Canby (1-3) heads to Renville on Tuesday to take on the Renville County West Jaguars (1-6) at 7:15 p.m.
RCW 71, YME 62
GRANITE FALLS — Bayli Sneller’s 23-point outburst wasn’t enough to lift the Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team to victory on Friday night in the Sting’s 71-62 loss to Renville County West in Camden Conference play.
Sneller shot 6 of 14 from the field and knocked down five of her eight attempts from long range in the loss. Bailey Mortenson and Abby Bones also chipped in 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Alana Almich blocked three shots for the Sting.
Yellow Medicine East (2-3) travels to Tracy on Thursday for a Camden Conference matchup against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (2-3) at 7:15 p.m.
Sleepy Eye 52, Wabasso 40
WABASSO — Kenley Guetter put together a strong effort on the glass for the Wabasso girls basketball team on Friday night against Sleepy Eye, but the boards weren’t enough as the Rabbits were left with a 52-40 loss in Tomahawk Conference play.
Guetter grabbed 12 rebounds on the day, seven of which came on the offensive glass. Her 7 points were also third on the team behind Ava Samyn’s 11 and Cassie Bliss’ 10.
Audrey Johnson dished out a game-high four assists with five rebounds while Elizabeth Morin added another three assists with six rebounds.
Bliss also made a defensive impact with four steals.
Wabasso (1-5) faces a tall task on Tuesday, going on the road to take on No. 2 Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (7-0) at 6 p.m.
MLAC 65, RRC 27
LAMBERTON — Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey’s offense was too much for the Red Rock Central girls basketball team to contain on Friday night as the Falcons fell 65-27 in Red Rock Conference play.
Celia Vogel put forth a well-rounded effort despite the loss, finishing the night with 9 points, four steals and five rebounds. Kendra Schroeder also scored another 8 points, as well as fishing out three assists and grabbing four boards.
Red Rock Central (0-6) remains in Lamberton for the third of five consecutive home games on Tuesday, hosting Westbrook-Walnut Grove (3-3) at 7:30 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd at LQPV, PPD
MADISON — The Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team’s road matchup against Lac qui Parle Valley on Friday was postponed, with a date yet to be announced.
Dawson-Boyd (1-3) returns to action in Graceville on Tuesday with a game against Border West (1-3) at 7:15 p.m.
