Breyfogle hits 1K career points against Jaguars

RENVILLE — Lakeview boys basketball senior guard Braylon Breyfogle had a monumental weekend, scoring his 1,000th career point against Renville County West Saturday afternoon. The Lakers fell to the Jaguars 69-49.

Breyfogle entered the game needing 22 points going into Saturday, and he finished with exactly that to reach the milestone.

WWG 81, TMB 71

WESTBROOK — Jackson Jenniges and Drew Swanson combined for 51 points to power the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team to an 81-71 victory over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Saturday. Jenniges recorded a double-double with a team-high 13 rebounds and 26 points.

Swanson logged 25 points to his five assists and eight rebounds, while Neil Kuehl also dished out five assists and three steals along with 11 points. Max Wiborg was the fourth Charger to finish in double-figures with 12 points, along grabbing eight boards.

WWG had a slight 36-32 halftime lead, and was able to hang on for the win behind efficient free throw and field goal shooting.

The Chargers shot 17 for 25 from the charity stripe and 44% from the field, while TMB shot 7 for 10 from the line and 35% from the field.

TMB, however, was red-hot from the perimeter shooting with 12 made 3s, while WWG had four makes from deep.

Griffin Zick led the Panthers with 26 points behind a team-high four 3-pointers, six assists and six steals.

Connor Lanoue followed with another 18 points and four assists, while Emery Xiong had 11 points. Sy Sanders had a team-high 10 rebounds.

WWG (4-2) next travels to take on Canby (1-4) today at 1 p.m.

TMB (4-2) will look to get back in the win column when it travels to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (2-3) today with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

MONDAY

Minneota 86, Canby 60

MINNEOTA — The Minneota boys basketball team snapped a three-game skid with an 86-60 win over Canby Monday night, powered by Leo Hennen and Jase Sorensen’s 43 combined points.

The Vikings had the hot-hand at the perimeter, making 15 3-pointers led by Hennen’s 6 for 11 and Sorensen’s 5 of 7 from deep. The Lancers shot 3 of 19 overall from the arc.

Kyson Arndt protected the glass with a game-high 15 rebounds along with his three steals and 8 points, while Ian Myhre also added in another 14 points.

Minneota finished with 12 steals to Canby’s two, and had 22 assists on its 35 made field goals.

For the Lancers, Owen Peterson led the way with 17 points while Jace Rangaard followed with 15. Casey Hoiland and Hunter Kack also each finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Overall, Minneota shot 43% from the field and 37.5% from deep, and held Canby to 36-16% clips.

Canby (1-5) will next return home to host Westbrook-Walnut Grove (4-2) next Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Minneota (2-3) will compete in this weekend’s holiday tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University, taking on Murray County Central (2-2) on Saturday at 11 a.m.

No. 8 CMC 81, Lakeview 39

PRINSBURG — The Lakeview boys basketball team suffered an 81-39 loss to No. 8 Central Minnesota Christian Monday night on the road.

Lakeview (3-6) will have the week off before returning back home to Cottonwood next Monday when it hosts Nicollet (4-1) at 7:30 p.m.

YME 70, RRC 38

LAMBERTON — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season Monday night with a 70-38 defeat over Red Rock Central behind Kia Greycloud’s 24-point, 10-rebound double-double along with four steals. Greycloud also shot 3 for 9 from deep.

Cooper McCosh and Gavin Torvik followed with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Finn Batalden led the Falcons with 16 points behind a trio of 3-pointers, while Carter Therkilsen had a team-high 11 rebounds.

YME (1-5) will stay on the road and take on Buffalo Lake-Hecotor-Stewart at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

RRC (0-6) will host Renville County West (5-2) next Tuesday with an 8 p.m. tipoff.

MCC 67, HLOF 45

OKABENA — The Murray County Central boys basketball team overcame a 5-point halftime deficit behind a powerful second half for a 67-45 win over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Monday night.

Aidan Swenson led the Rebels with a double-double of 21 points on 67% shooting and 10 rebounds. Wyatt Thompson followed with another 17 points, also on an efficient 67% shooting mark, while Tristan Behrends had a team-high 12 rebounds and six steals to his 7 points.

Carter Hanson also had five steals and 7 points, while Thompson had a team-high three blocks.

Overall, the Rebels shot 46% from the field and had 14 steals on the night.

MCC (3-2) will compete in this weekend’s holiday tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University, taking on Minneota (1-3) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
