Arndt, Stelter, Vierstraete combine for 5.5 tackles in Prep All-Star Game
MINNEAPOLIS — Marshall’s Andrew Stelter and JR Vierstraete and Minneota’s Kyson Arndt represented southwest Minnesota in the Minnesota High School All-Star Game on Saturday at US Bank Stadium. The local trio combined for 5.5 tackles for the South All-Stars in a 17-6 loss to the North All-Stars.
Stelter led the local trio with 2.5 tackles on the day to rank third on the team while Arndt and Vierstraete contributed two tackles and one tackle, respectively. Vierstraete also had one carry for no gain on the offensive side of the ball.
The North All-Stars scored each of the game’s first 17 points, including a 3-yard passing touchdown to Kevin Ndirangu from Kaden Harney in the first quarter, a 57-yard field goal from Sawyer Riffle in the second and a nine-yard passing touchdown from Harney to Calvin Coppersmith in the third. Caleb Francois also scored a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to prevent the South from getting shut out.
Vierstraete and Arndt both have plans to continue their football career at the Division II level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference next year. Arndt will be playing at Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D. while Vierstraete will remain in his hometown with Southwest Minnesota State University.
Stelter has also committed to SMSU to play baseball.
Arndt’s Minneota Vikings won their fourth consecutive state title this year while Vierstraete and Stelter’s Tigers made it to the Class 4A semifinals, falling to the eventual state-champion Orono Spartans.
