Therkilsen named RB of the Year in 9 South West All-District

LAMBERTON — Red Rock Central running back Carter Therkilsen was named the 9-South West District Running Back of the Year upon the release of the All-District teams this week. Therkilsen ran for 1,949 yards and 24 touchdowns on 10.9 yards per attempt over the course of the regular season, leading the Falcons to a 10-1 record with a Section 2 9-player championship.
Therkilsen was one of five Falcons selected to the All-District team, along with quarterback Abe Stavnes, tight end and linebacker Jake Erickson, tight end and defensive end Jonah Skarupa and guard and defensive end Jake Grant.
Stavnes passed for 720 yards with 11 touchdowns on the season and ran for 760 yards with nine touchdowns. On the receiving end of those passes, Erickson brought in nine receptions for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Skarupa caught five passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Skarupa led the team with 70 total tackles and four sacks, as well as 12 total tackles for loss, while Erickson logged 64 total tackles and three tackles for loss. Grant also had 45 tackles with seven tackles for loss.
Wabasso earned four first-team selections in Nolan Leopold, Mason Kampson, Zeke Olson and Jack Burns.
As wide receivers, Leopold caught 38 passes for 528 yards and five touchdowns while Burns contributed 19 catches for 267 yards and a pair of touchdowns. As defensive backs, Leopold grabbed four picks while Burns added another three.
Olson, a tight end and defensive end, made 42 tackles on the season and grabbed four receptions for 78 yards.Kampson, a linebacker and offensive guard, tied Tyson Lightfoot with a team-leading 54 total tackles.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove also had a pair of first-team selections, with captain Neil Kuehl rushing for 588 yards and five touchdowns, as well as making a team-leading 66 tackles with a sack and an interception on defense, while Drew Swanson caught a team-leading 54 passes for 659 yards and five touchdowns. Swanson also made 33 tackles.
Wide receiver and cornerback Jordan Therkilsen and guard and defensive end each earned honorable mentions for the Falcons. Wabasso quarterback Drew Kemp and running back/linebacker Joe Rohlik each also got the nod, as did WWG wide receiver and defensive end Kyle Curry and defensive end Ian Knakmuhs.
