Marshall suffers first loss of season

ALBERT LEA — The Marshall girls hockey team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday at Albert Lea after winning each of its first five games. Abbey Foley, Brooklyn Mauch and Peyton DeMuth each logged a pair of points in the game but the Tigers lost 4-3.

Marshall led 3-2 heading into the final period, but Albert Lea scored two goals in the final seven minutes of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Peyton DeMuth gave Marshall a go-ahead goal five minutes into the second period, capitalizing off a feed from her sister Eme DeMuth to give Marshall a 3-2 edge.

Lily Stelter put together another strong effort in goal for the Tigers, finishing the day with 22 saves between the posts.

Mauch scored each of the game’s first two goals. She scored off a feed from Foley for her first point of the day 10 minutes into the game and scored again three minutes later off assists from Foley and Peyton DeMuth to give Marshall a 2-0 lead. Yet, Albert Lea scored a minute after the second goal to trim Marshall’s edge to 2-1 at the end of the first frame.

Albert Lea scored the first goal of the second stanza two minutes after it started, but DeMuth’s goal put Marshall on top shortly thereafter.

Marshall falls to 5-1 with the loss and returns to action on Friday when it hosts Shakopee for its first game of its home Thanksgiving tournament at Red Baron Arena. Puck drop is slated for 12:30 p.m.
