Stelter, Vierstraete, Maeyaert earn District honors for Marshall

MARSHALL –Andrew Stelter, Levi Maeyaert and JR Vierstraete were among the 11 honorees for the Marshall football team on the Skyway Copper All-District team, announced on Monday. Marshall had six first-team selections, five honorable mentions and six award winners.
Stelter was named the District Most Valuable Player and a first-team all-district selection for the Tigers for his contributions as a running back and linebacker. He racked up 462 yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season, as well as 37 tackles and a pair of sacks on the defensive side of the ball.
Joining him on the first team were quarterback Maeyaert, defensive lineman Vierstraete, defensive back Shep Jensen and offensive linemen Eli Weedman and Angel Chavarria.
Vierstraete was named the district’s Defensive Lineman of the Year for the third time after his senior season, capping off an illustrious career with Marshall. He led the team with 12 tackles for loss and a sack on the season, and his 39 total tackles trailed only Tyson Louwagie.
Maeyaert was also named the district’s quarterback of the year. He completed 54 of his 90 pass attempts for 994 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions, also running the ball for 135 yards and three touchdowns.

Head coach Terry Bahlmann was named the district Coach of the Year after leading Marshall to the state semifinals for the second consecutive season, while defensive coordinator Brad Bahlmann was named the Assistant Coach of the Year.
Louwagie was one of five honorable mentions for Marshall, along with offensive tackle Aidan Erickson, outside linebacker Cannon Craigmile, defensive lineman Braedyn VanMeveren and defensive back Jayden Meister.
