Miller, Doeden, Deacon lead Rebels past Wabasso

WABASSO — Kat Miller, Calleigh Doeden and Ava Deacon were a three-headed monster for the Murray County Central girls basketball team’s offense in its non-conference matchup against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Saturday. The trio combined for 52 points to close out the Wabasso Invitational over the weekend, leading the Rebels to a 72-45 win.
Miller led the scoring attack with 19 points on 7 of 15 shooting, including four 3-pointers on eight attempts, while Doeden and Deacon accounted for 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Kate Blankenship was the team’s primary facilitator in the game, dishing out five assists while scoring 7 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds, four of which came on the offensive glass.
Reese Gilbertson tied Blankenship for a game-high in offensive boards and led the team overall with nine total rebounds. She scored 8 points in the game.
On the defensive end, Deacon and Gilbertson each came away with four steals and Blankenship added another three.
Murray County Central improves to 2-0 on the season, claiming each of its first two games by more than 20 points, and heads to Tyler tonight to take on Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (0-1) tonight at 7:15 p.m.
MACCRAY 59, WWG 28
WABASSO — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team wasn’t able to find its offensive rhythm against a highly talented MACCRAY team at the Wabasso Invitational on Saturday, falling 59-28 for its first loss of the season.
The Chargers fall to 1-1 on the year and next head to Edgerton tonight at 7:15 p.m. to take on the Flying Dutchmen.
