Marshall football seeded 1st in Class AAAA South state tourney

MARSHALL — Looking to build off its run to the semifinals of last year’s state tournament, the Marshall football team earned the No. 1 seed in the South bracket of the Class AAAA tournament after finishing its section tournament undefeated.

The Tigers will take on fourth-seeded Totino-Grace in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Blaine. Marshall enters the matchup at a perfect 10-0 while Totino-Grace heads in at 6-4.

Also in the South bracket, Kasson-Mantorville earned the No. 2 seed at 9-1 while Hill-Murray earned the No. 3 seed with the same record. The matchup will be played at Stillwater Area High School on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Kasson-Mantorville won section 1AAAA after upsetting Byron, the top-ranked team in the final Minnesota Associated Press poll, by a score of 31-28 in the section championship match.

In the North bracket, Grand Rapids earned the top seed at 9-1 and takes on No. 4 Benilde-St. Margaret’s (8-3) at Brainerd on Thursday at 7 p.m. Fergus Falls earned the 2 seed after going 8-2 and takes on Orono (7-3) at Alexandria at 6 p.m. at Alexandria Area.

The semifinals will be played at US Bank Stadium. The low seed from the North will play the high seed from the South on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m., and the other two remaining teams will play at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 14. The Class AAAA state championship will be played at US Bank Stadium on Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.
