Swanson, Kuehl lead WWG past MLA 22-12
WESTBROOK — Neil Kuehl rushed for 90 yards on 20 attempts and brought in four catches for another 20 to lead the Westbrook-Walnut Grove football team to a 22-12 win over Mountain Lake Area on Saturday.
Connor Jackels put the Chargers on the board in the first quarter, running for a 10-yard touchdown and completing a 2-point conversion attempt to Drew Swanson. The Chargers remained ahead for the remainder of the game.
The Wolverines scored 6 points in the second quarter, but the Chargers continued to maintain their lead when Kyle Curry completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Swanson to make the score 14-6 at the break.
Swanson finished his day with eight catches for 79 yards, also scoring in the third quarter on a 24-yard pass from Jackels. Curry chipped in another four catches for 55 yards.
Jackels completed 15 of his 19 attempts for 129 yards in the game, also running the ball seven times for 20 yards.
Curry and Ian Knakmuhs each recorded a sack on defense, while Logan Larson recovered a fumble for the game’s lone turnover.
WWG improves to 1-1 on the season and goes on the road to take on Adrian/Ellsworth (1-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.
