Canby/Minneota boys, girls sweep home cross country meet
CANBY — The Canby/Minneota boys and girls cross country team had a strong showing at their home meet Tuesday afternoon, with both teams finishing in first place while Mya Pesek led all runners for a first-place finish in the girl’s race.
On the girls side, Canby/Minneota took first of the three teams that qualified with 25 points. Central Minnesota Christian followed with 44 points for second, while Russell-Tyler-Ruthton placed third with 58 points.
Individually, Pesek ran a 21:27.60 to finish on top of the leaderboard out of 35 runners, 11 seconds ahead of CMC’s Annaliese Wood second-place finish.
RTR’s Summer Labrune had a strong outing as well, running a 22:02.96 for third place.
Taylor Ourada and Adri Christianson both took sixth and seventh place, respectively, for Canby/Minneota, while Jonna Briggs also finished in the top-10 with a time of 23:03.88 for eighth. Ourada ran a 22:47.37, and Christianson followed closely behind with a 22:59.63.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Miranda Mischke took seventh place with a 23:03.88.
On the boys side, Canby/Minneota placed first as a team, out of seven, with 29 points. TMB came in third with a 90, and Lakeview finished fourth with 96 points. The RTR and Yellow Medicine East boys teams placed sixth and seventh.
Individually of 56 runners, Lakeview’s Tate Remiger had another successful race with a 17:39.48 for second place.
Canby/Minneota had five individuals finish in the top-10, with Tallen Merritt, Brett Stoks and Kendon Knutson placing third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Merritt ran an 18:43.25, while Stoks followed with a 19:02.25 and Knutson with a 19:04.97.
James Kamrath took seventh place with a 20:08.20, and Seth Paluch rounded out Canby/Minneota with a ninth place finish and 20:19.58 time.
Canby/Minneota will next travel to the Willmar Glacial Lakes Invitational on Sept. 27 at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
Lakeview and YME will both return to the course at the Lac qui Parle Valley Invite next Tuesday at the Madison Country Club, as RTR will go to the Luverne Meet on Oct. 2.
TMB has a quick turn around and will race at the Windom Eagle Invite on Monday.
