Podoll places 16th, SMSU places 9th at NSIC golf championship

SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team closed its season on Sunday finishing ninth place at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship played at the par-72, 5,853-yard, Paradise Pointe – Outlaw Course.

SMSU, which shot a 48-over-par 336 during Sunday’s final round, finished the three-round tournament at 136-over 1,000.

Minnesota State won the team title at 57-over 921 with Augustana placing second at 68-over 932. Emerson Garlie from Minnesota State won the individual championship at 2-over 218.

Senior Danielle Podoll, playing her final round as a Mustang, shot a 5-over 77–her second lowest round of the season–to pace the Mustangs on Sunday. She made one birdie and 11 pars on the day and finished tied for 16th in the tournament at 25-over 241.

Podoll closes her career ranking ninth in team history with an 84.1 stroke average in 76 career rounds. Her 81.9 average this season ranks as the 12th lowest in program single-season history.

Isabella Jacobs finished 37th overall at 35-over 251 following a 13-over 85 on Sunday, which included one birdie and nine pars. Mallory Uselman shot a 17-over 89 in the final round with one birdie and five pars and placed tied for 38th overall at 38-over 254. Berkley Steffen made two birdies and seven pars on Sunday for a 13-over 85 and finished 44th overall at 42-over 258. Meghan Pundsack finished the day with a 30-over 102 and placed 52nd at 56-over 272.
