Schryver’s 14 kills lead MCC past Edgerton

SLAYTON — Getting back into the win column and right back on track with their winning season, the Murray County Central volleyball team swept Edgerton in three sets Tuesday night. 

MCC has found success this season, including a five-game win streak in September. It performed well over a weekend tournament in Bertha, winning three of four matches. In set scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-12, the Rebels had control from the jump on Tuesday. 

Suttyn Schryvers had a team-high 14 kills, while Thea Schneider added eight and Peyton DeGreeff with another six. 

Schnieder and Kate Blankenship each had 12 digs a piece, and Emmi Peltola followed with 10. Lila Scandrett also logged four kills, another team-high. 

DeGreeff also had four service aces. Kelli Miller led with 18 assists, while Schneider had 17 as well. 

With three regular-season games left, MCC, 9-5, will next host Pipestone Area on Monday, Oct. 7, with a 7 p.m. first serve. 

No. 1 RTR 3, SWMC 0

TYLER — Paisley Thooft was unstoppable as an outside hitter for the top-ranked Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team on Tuesday night, racking up 16 kills as the Knights defeated Southwest Minnesota Christian 25-14, 25-19, 25-20.

Alongside Thooft, Ava Guida tallied 11 kills while Ava Karbo added another seven. Brezlyn Buchert set up the hitters with 33 set assists in the match.

On the defensive end, Avery Schreurs led the team with 17 digs while Sarah Thooft contributed nine and Laken Baartman and Guida each finished with another seven.

Schreurs also served up three aces on the night while Paisley Thooft added another pair.

RTR improves to 16-5 with the win and will next head to Marshall to compete in the Jimmy John’s Tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday and Saturday.

WWG 3, MLAC 0

WESTBROOK — The well-rounded Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team picked up its seventh consecutive win on Tuesday night when it swept Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey 25-14, 25-13, 25-14.

Natalie Wahl, Carlie Ross and Leah Carter each had seven kills in the match behind Hadley Jenniges’ balanced 26 set assists. Wahl also led the team defensively with nine digs while Ross tied Ambrosa Yang and Liv Locke with one service ace.

Locke and Jenniges each also contributed five digs in the match while Riley Parker had a pair of solo blocks.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove improves to 13-2 with the win and will next head to Marshall to participate in the Jimmy John’s Tournament at SMSU on Friday and Saturday.

BLHS 3, Wabasso 2

BUFFALO LAKE — In its second straight five-set matchup, the Wabasso Rabbits fell to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart Tuesday night, dropping sets one, four and five. 

After BLHS took the first set 25-23, the Rabbits fought back to take the next two 25-22 and 25-20. However, the Mustangs took the momentum back over the next two 25-22 and 15-11 to hand Wabasso its second consecutive loss. 

It was an entire team effort to force the game to five sets in a comeback attempt. Alivia Olson led the team with 17 kills, as Camryn Irlbeck added 13 more, Kenley Guetter with 10 and Leah Mathiowetz with another eight. 

Sara Carlson had a strong 51-set assist night and 13 digs, notching a double-double. 

Audrey Johnson had a team-high 20 digs, and Olson also tallied 10. 

Irlbeck and Carly Fender each grabbed four blocks. 

Wabasso, 16-9, will next return home to host Red Rock Central, 7-9, on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

RCW 3, YME 0

GRANITE FALLS — Klaira Shackelford’s 21 digs weren’t enough to get the Yellow Medicine East volleyball team back in the win column on Tuesday night as the Sting dropped in straight sets against Renville County West, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15.

Alana Almich led the Sting offensively at the net with eight kills while Abbey Bones led the team defensively with four blocks. Lexi Stengel also contributed seven set assists in the match.

Yellow Medicine East falls to 3-12 with the los and will look to bounce back when it hosts No. 6 Canby (14-5) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

RRC 3, HLOF 1 

LAMBERTON — Red Rock Central came out on top in a 3-1 win Tuesday evening against Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda, only dropping the second set. 

In sets of 25-12, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-22, the Falcons were given tough competition from the Coyotes after a double-digit winning first set. Tia Donkersloot led the offense with 15 kills, followed by Ally Linder and Abby Evans with eight more respectively. 

Donkersloot also got herself involved on defense with a team-high nine blocks, just one shy of a double-double on the night. 

Natasha Erickson tallied 33 set assists and 11 digs, and Maia Scheffler led with 20 digs.

RRC moves to 7-9 overall on the season and will next travel to take on Cedar Mountain on Thursday at 7 p.m. 

MACCRAY 3, Dawson-Boyd 0

CLARA CITY — The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks fell to MACCRAY in three sets Tuesday night, marking their fifth straight loss, in scores of 25-19, 25-9 and 25-8.

Reese Johnson, Kadyn Perkins and Addy Tufto paced the Blackjacks on offense through the night at the front of the net. Bailey Bothun also had eight set assists, and Johnson had a pair of blocks as well.

Kylar Hjelmeland also had a team-high six service aces.

Dawson-Boyd, 2-16, will next travel to Kerkhoven on Thursday at 7 p.m
