Marshall swim and dive team edges Monte

MARSHALL — The Marshall swim and dive team edged out the Montevideo Thunderhawks on Thursday night for a 94-86 win at the Don Palm Natatorium.

Grace Rokeh beat out her seed time in the 200-yard individual Medley by 0.06 seconds, winning the race at 2:28.28. Leah Hybbert also took third in the event at 2:41.31 while Alayna Gruhot placed fifth at 3:03.26 to score another point for the team.

Rokeh also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at 58.73, finishing just behind first-place teammate Alana Condezo’s time of 58.35. Both of the two beat their seed time while Joleigh Kesteloot scored another pair of points for the Tigers with a 1:09.82 fourth-place finish.

Hailey Larsen and Alex Brown took the top two spots in the 500-yard freestyle for Marshall at 6:05.13 and 6:06.95 respectively, while Amber Castor took fourth place at 6:57.07.

Finley Pelz continued her strong start to the season with a 2:04.95 time in the 200-yard freestyle to place first and beat her seed time by over a second. Condezo placed second at 2:11.28 while Briana Hernandez placed fifth at 2:47.26.

Pelz also picked up a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:08.86, beating her seed time by 2.5 seconds, while Kesteloot and Maureen Brusven placed third and fifth for the Tigers at 1:15.86 and 1:25.96.

Autumn Deutz and Aaliyah Podratz placed first and third for Marshall in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.28 and 28.28 respectively. Deutz also placed second in the 1-meter dive, with her 160.55 score trailing only Montevideo’s Elizabeth O’Malley’s 179.95 mark. Raya Goergen also took fifth in the event at 122.95.

Larsen and Hybbert placed second and third in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing neck-and-neck at 1:11.32 and 1:11.92. Montevideo’s Lauren Dove won the event at 1:10.74.

Podratz was the 100-yard backstroke runner-up at 1:23.86 while Brown placed fifth at 1:28.49.

Deutz, Podratz, Hybbert and Rokeh won the 200-yard medley relay at 2:06.28, edging out Montevideo by less than a second. The Tigers’ B-team of Kesteloo0t, Anna Maria Michael, Larsen and Brown also placed third at 2:20.56.

Marshall took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle with Deutz, Condezo, Hybbert and Pelz winning the event at 1:49.13.

In the day’s final relay, Marshall took the top two spots in the 400-yard freestyle. Larsen, Pelz, Condezo and Rokeh won the event at 4:12.70 while Brown, Kesteloot, Maren Hasse and Alayna Gruhot took second at 4:44.26.

Marshall will next go on the road for a Dual at St. Peter on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
