C/M girls, Lakeview boys highlight 3A East subsection meet

GIRLS

REDWOOD VALLEY — The Canby/Minneota girls track and field team finished head and shoulders above the rest of the competition at the Section 3A East subsection meet on Thursday at Redwood Valley High School. The Lances finished 30 points ahead of the runner-up Redwood Valley Cardinals while sending 11 individuals and four relay teams to the section championships with top-4 finishes in their respective events.

Jordyn Jostock, Natalie and Claire Stoks, Taylor Ourada, Braelyn Merritt, Rachel Jelen, Mya Pesek, Ava Danielson, Nohemi Diaz, Cheyenne Milbrandt and Karlie Wollum each qualified for the section championships with their performance in the meet, as did the Lancers’ 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800-meter relay teams.

B.O.L.D./BLH placed third in the meet with 105 points while Central Minnesota Christian and Lakeview took fourth and fifth with 75 and 57 points respectively. Wabasso and Yellow Medicine East recorded 44 and 42 points while Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central placed eighth with 38 points.

The Section 3A championship meet will be held at Luverne High School on Thursday at 2 p.m. Field events will begin at 3:30 p.m. while running events will start at 5 p.m.

BOYS

REDWOOD FALLS — The Lakeview boys track and field team dominated the field at the Section 3A East subsection meet at Redwood Valley High School on Friday. The Lakers scored 181.5 points in the meet, 32 more than runner-up Redwood Valley, while sending 13 individuals and three relay teams to the section championship meet.

Cale Erickson, Cole and Tate Remiger, Chase Hatfield, Ethan Staab, Thane Matthys, Garrett Schafer, Jackson Staab, Simon Gravley, Lucas Taylor, Terrek Jenniges and Broden Stensrud each qualified for the section championship meet as top-4 individual finishers in their respective events. The lakers are also sending their 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800-meter relay teams to the section championship.

Central Minnesota Christian rounded out the team podium at the meet with 117.5 points while B.O.L.D./BLH and Canby/Minneota took fourth and fifth place with 86 and 78 points respectively. Wabasso and Yellow Medicine East finished with 51 and 50 points while Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central rounded out the pack with 24.5 points.

SLAYTON — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton led area boys teams with a fourth-place finish in the Section 3A South subsection meet at the Murray County Central Track Complex on Saturday.

The Panthers accumulated 91 points on the day, finishing behind Luverne’s 161.5, Hills-Beaver Creek’s 119 and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 115.5. Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Murray County Central finished the meet with 77 and 64 points respectively, followed by Pipestone Area’s 48 and Adrian-Ellsworth’s 20.

Individuals and relay teams that placed within the top 4 of their respective events advance to the section championship at Luverne High School on Thursday. Field events will start at 3:30 p.m. followed by track events at 5 p.m.

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central girls track and field team hosted the Section 3A South subsection championship meet on Friday, finishing middle-of-the-pack in the eight-team field.

As a team, MCC scored 84 points, finishing ahead of RTR’s 60 and Adiran-Ellsworth’s 57. Luverne won the meet with 213 points while Hills-Beaver Creek and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton tied for second with 100.5

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton finished last with 32 points, 8 points back of seventh-place Pipestone Area.
