Rebels walk off Panthers, 6-5

SLAYTON — Peyton Degreef took an advantage of a Tracy-Milroy-Balaton error in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday night to drive in the game-winning run and give the Murray County Central softball team a 6-5 win.

The game was tied when the Rebels came up to bat in the seventh. Atalie Rosenbrook reached on an error but a strikeout before her at-bat and a pop out after put the Panthers an out away from sending the game to extra innings.

Calleigh Doeden put runners on the corners with a single when DeGreef came up to bat. She sent a grounder to short to put the ball in play and, after the shortstop couldn’t handle the ball, she beat out the throw to first to drive in Rosenbrook for the win.

Thea Schneider took the circle for the Rebels on the day, pitching all seven innings while earning the win. She allowed six hits and four walks in the outing but struck out 13 batters to secure the win.

On the offensive side of the plate, Schneider was responsible for the Rebels’ lone extra-base hit, a first-inning triple.

Loosbrock hit an RBI single in the next at-bat — the first of two hits she had on the day — to drive in Schneider.Atalie Rosenbrook reached on an error on the next play to drive in loosbrock and tie the game at 2-2 after the first.

For the Panthers, Melaina Ankrum and Aliyah Loftness each had a pair of hits. Ankrum and Jordyn Hanson each also had a double on the day.
