McFarquhar advances to state in bars, vault

WINDOM — Cameen McFarquhar earned a pair of state tournament berths while Marshall placed seventh at Saturday’s Section 3A gymnastics tournament in Windom.

McFarquhar led the Tigers by placing in four events at the section tournament. Her fourth-place finish in the vault with a score of 9.2 and her sixth-place finish on the bars at 8.735 earned her a state tournament nod in both events. She also scored 9.25 on the floor routine, good for eighth place, to finish the day with a seventh place, 34.725 all-around score.

Fellow senior Jocelyn Schlenner also had some quality performances in her final high school gymnastics meet, scoring 8.775 on the vault, 8.0 on the floor and 7.875 on the beam.

As a team, Marshall placed seventh with a score of 121.75. Worthington won the meet with a score of 142.85 while Luverne and Redwood Valley rounded out the podium at 136.45 and 134.2. Pipestone, JCC and Windom took fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.

The Class A individual gymnastics tournament will be held on Saturday at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. The Class A Individual and All-Around championships will begin at 11 a.m. Section 3 will have the first rotation on the uneven parallel bars and the seventh rotation on the vault.
