Vikings finish regular-season conference play undefeated

No. 1 Minneota 3, Dawson-Boyd 0

DAWSON — The top-ranked Minneota volleyball team continued to roll through its opponents with a 3-0 win over Dawson-Boyd on Tuesday night. The Vikings swept the Blackjacks with game scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-12 to finish the year undefeated in conference.

Lyzah Sussner led the Vikings defensively on the night with 13 digs, nine more than her next closest teammate, and an ace.

Nevaeh Hennen led the Vikings in the middle with 21 set assists while Faith Myhre had another 10. On the finishing end of those assists, Elivia Faris had 11 kills while Kenadi Arndt and Ella Johnson had eight and seven respectively.

Arndt’s two blocks were also second on the team to Emma Bottelberghe’s three.

Minneota (25-3) will wrap up its regular season against No. 3 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. The last time the two teams met in the Class A Showcase, the Vikings won 25-16, 25-17.

From there, the Vikings will get started in the Section 3A tournament. After earning the No. 1 seed in the North bracket and a first-round bye, the Vikings will play the winner of No. 8 Dawson-Boyd and No. 9 Lac qui Parle Valley.

No. 6 Canby 3, No. 8 RCW 2

CANBY — The No. 6 Canby volleyball team picked up its third straight win on Tuesday night, outlasting the No. 8 Renville County West Jaguars in five sets.

The Lancers won the first two sets, 25-16, 25-15, before Renville picked up a 25-19 win and 25-14 win to force a fifth game. Still, Canby hung on for a 15-10 win.

Karlie Wollum was unstoppable on the night, finishing the match with 22 kills and a block. She also had 12 digs in the match.

Also contributing in a big way, Grace Hansen and Brooklyn Kindopp each had 12 kills while Emily Nelson and Brynn Kockelman finished with 11 and nine respectively. Hansen and Kindopp also each had three blocks on the night with all of Kindopp’s being solo blocks.

Nelson and Kockelman were a dynamic duo in the middle for the Lancers, finishing with 32 and 29 set assists respectively. Nelson’s 21 digs were also a game-high.

Aliyah Rangaard had 16 digs for Canby while Jaryn Houseman had another 14.

Canby finishes its regular season at 21-8. After earning the No. 2 seed in the Section 3A tournament, the Lancers will next play on Oct. 27, hosting the winner of No. 7 Lakeview and No. 10 Yellow Medicine East.

TMB 3, LQPV 0

MADISON — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team ended its regular season on a high note Tuesday night, taking down Lac qui Parle Valley in straight sets to pick up its second consecutive victory.

The Panthers won the match with 25-11, 25-22 and 28-26 as the game scores.

Hailey Gernentz led the Panthers with 14 digs as well as 24 set assists and seven kills. Braelynn Kirk and Alivia Jensen were also major defensive contributors with 12 digs each. Kirk also had four aces on the night

Jensen’s nine kills also tied Allie Adams for a team-high. Kyli Carter was third on the team with eight kills and had a pair of blocks.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton finishes its regular season at 8-20. They’ll open up the 3A tournament as the No. 8 seed in the South bracket against No. 9 Hills-Beaver Creek.

No. 10 MACCRAY 3, YME 0

CLARA CITY — The Yellow Medicine East was unable to play spoiler for No. 10 MACCRAY’s final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night, falling in straight sets to the Wolverines. MACCRAY won the first set 25-13 before taking the next pair of games 25-8.

Kiara Sakry had 15 digs for the Sting while Riley Streich had 11 with six set assists. Narria Leenerts also had eight digs.

No YME players recorded a block or more than two kills in the match.

Yellow Medicine East finishes its regular season at 4-20. The Sting will open the 3A Section Tournament as the No. 10 seed in the North bracket. They’ll head to Cottonwood to take on No. 7S in the play-in round on Monday at 7 p.m.

Cleveland 3, Wabasso 0

CLEVELAND — The Wabasso volleyball team’s defensive prowess wasn’t enough to steal a road win against Cleveland on Tuesday night as the Rabbits fell in straight sets in their regular-season finale. The Clippers won the match with game scores of 25-23, 30-28 and 25-18.

Audrey Johnson led a trio of Rabbits in double figures with 16 kills. Avery and Sara Carlson also added 13 and 11 digs respectively. Sara’s 34 set assists were also a team-high.

Camryn Irlbeck held the Rabbits down defensively in the front row with three solo blocks while Avery Carlson and Natasha Doubler each had another one.

Offensively, Alivia Olson had 10 kills while Lyla Kittelson and Avery Carlson tallied eight and seven respectively.

Wabasso (15-9) enters the 3A Section Tournament as the No. 5 seed in the North Bracket. They’ll open their tournament run on the road against No. 4N Renville County West on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The Jaguars have won each of the teams’ two previous matchups this season.

WWG 3, RRC 0

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove ended its regular season with its fifth consecutive win on Tuesday night, taking down Red Rock Central in straight sets.

Addeson Jenniges led the Chargers defensively with 15 digs while Abby Wiggins and Natalie Wahl had 14 and 13 respectively. Wahl’s 16 kills and Jenniges’ 28 set assists were also both game-highs on the offensive end.

Tia Donkersloot and Callie Highby had six and three blocks respectively for the Falcons while Maia Scheffler had 10 digs in the back line. Highby’s six kills were also a team-high for the Falcons.
