WORTHINGTON — Those familiar with the Section 3A boys golf scene likely experienced a sense of déjà vu during Wednesday’s tournament. Just like last year, Lakeview’s Carson Boe won the 3A individual championship and, also like last year, the Lakers repeated as the team champions.

Boe came into the day holding a two-stroke lead over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Nathan Kueny. Rather than just holding onto the lead, Boe ran away with it; his 4-under 67 put him seven strokes better than the next closest golfer on the day — HLOF/WWG’s Sawyer Drent with a 74 — and he finished the tournament with a two-day score of 2-under 140, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Kueny.

After finishing the 10th hole even with par, Boe rattled off four birdies in his final eight holes to put some significant distance between him and any competitor.

Boe was far from a one-man team, though; Lane Arends placed sixth, Ethan Schwankl placed 10th and Jordan Fischer placed 14th for the Lakers. Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton was the only team to even get its third golfer ahead of Lakeview’s fourth.

Arends came into day two in sixth place his consistency paid off. After a 2-over opening hole, Arends only had one stroke more than 1-over-par for the rest of the day, finishing with a tournament total of 165.

Schwankl’s 173 put him one stroke back of Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Alex Munson.

As a team, Lakeview put together a two-day score of 659. The Lakers’ second-day total of 332 tied them with HLOF/WWG but their lead after day one led them to victory.

The runner-up coyotes had a team score of 668 while Adrian/Ellsworth and SWC/E rounded out the teams that made the cut.

HLOF/WWG’s Sawyer Drent finished fourth after day one but his three back-nine birdies helped him leapfrog Adrian/Ellsworth’s Brock Henning for a third-place spot.

Neil Kuehl and Brady Ross each shot a 182 to tie Canby’s Daven VanEngen for 15th and round out the Coyotes’ scores.

Competing as an individual, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton’s Chase Christensen finished in fifth place. After shooting an 11-over 82 on day one, he shot a 7-over 78 on day two — including a six-hole even stretch to close out the tournament — to move out of the three-way tie for sixth that he started the day in and qualify for states.

Canby’s Jack Abrahamson placed eighth in the tournament with a 170. Despite a stellar performance, he was the first player to miss the cut for state tournament individual qualification.

Red Rock Central’s Keagan Steen shot an 88 to place 19th for the Falcons while Murray County Central’s Hudson Schryvers tied Minneota’s Max Rost for 23rd at 190 strokes.

Aidan Lanoue finished first for Wabasso with a score of 195, tying Canby’s Dylan Houseman.

The Class A State Golf Tournament will be held June 13-14 at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
