Tigers dominate in 7-2 Friday night win over Bluejays

MARSHALL –The Marshall Tigers boys hockey team defeated the Waseca Bluejays 7-2 on Friday evening.

The Tigers trailed for most of the first period after allowing a goal early on. However, the Tigers would quickly turn the game around by scoring 2 goals in 27 seconds.

The first goal was scored by Klayton Weller and assisted by Sam Schwarz and Luke Ehlers to tie up the game 1-1.

The second goal was scored by Joey Fossum unassisted to give the Tigers the lead at 2-1.

The Tigers outshot the Bluejays 10-4 in the first period and would hold on to that 2-1 lead.

Then the Tigers erupted.

The Marshall Tigers would score four goals in the second period by four different players: Talan Plante, Owen Renslow, Andrea Seanor, and Chase Mellenthin. The Tigers extended their lead to 6-1, putting the game out of reach.

Fossum would score his second goal in the third period, giving the Tigers a 7-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The Tigers outshot the Bluejays 34-16 on the night.

Gavin Welsh manned the net for the Tigers and finished the game with 14 saves.

The Marshall Tigers boys hockey team (8-9-1) will be traveling to play against the Minnesota River High School at 4 p.m.
