Mustangs return to No. 7 in latest AVCA Rankings

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After a 3-0 week with wins over Sioux Falls, Minot State, and UMary, the Southwest Minnesota State University volleyball team jumped one spot, returning to No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Poll released on Monday afternoon. The Mustangs are one of five NSIC schools ranked in the AVCA Top 25 with Wayne State continuing its reign as the unanimous No. 1. Concordia-St. Paul hangs in at No. 3, while Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State each jumped one spot, moving to No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. SMSU has started 17-2 overall and 9-2 in the NSIC. They have now been ranked in the Top 25 for 208 of the last 209 rankings, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006.Their 17 victories through 19 matches are tied for the third most wins through 19 matches in program history. The record is held by the 2012 and 2017 teams, who each started their respective seasons 18-1. SMSU returns home next weekend, hosting MSU Moorhead on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. before welcoming Northern State for a match on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m., inside the PE Gym.
