Rebels keep rolling
ST. JAMES — The Murray County Central Rebels controlled the game from the kickoff to the final buzzer in their 35-13 win over the St. James Saints Friday night. They led by as many as 35 points in the one-sided win.
While the passing game played their role, MCC’s run game feasted on the St. James defense. The Rebels ran for 269 yards in the game, including a 63-yard touchdown run by Ross Engelkes in the first quarter to give MCC an 8-0 lead. Engelkes would finish the game with 187 rush yards and a pair of touchdowns on a hyper-efficient 8.9 yards per carry. He also made three defensive tackles, including a tackle for loss.
The MCC secondary looked every bit a no-fly zone, limiting St. James to just 25 passing yards. On the ground, St. James was able to get to 175 yards, but much of this came after the game was out of hand. The Saints scored all of their 13 points in the fourth quarter after trailing 35-0. Christian Tentinger led the defense with 7.5 total tackles.
The Rebels’ second leading rusher was Abe Paulzine, with 67 yards on eight carries and a touchdown run in the second quarter. As a passer, Paulzine threw for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns as well. Tanner Graphenteen was the receiver on 55 of those passing yards, including both touchdowns.
The Murray County Central Rebels (3-1) will return to their home field Friday when they host sleepy eye at 7:00 p.m.
