WACONIA — The Marshall boys and girls track and field teams competed in Day 1 of the Section 2AA meet on Wednesday.
Boys
Prelim events
In the 100 meters, Chidi Nwakama took 12th with a time of 11.56 seconds while Ethan Hess took 21st (12.02 seconds) and Luke Novotny took 23rd (12.22 seconds). In the 200 meters, Mickey Hess took 16th with a time of 24.71 seconds while Tyrell Lego took 20th (24.95 seconds). In the 400 meters, Tyson Brandt took 22nd with a time of 58.56 seconds while Jack Gunn took 26th (1:00.23) and Juan Martell took 27th (1:00.74). In the 800 meters, Keagen Anderson took eighth and qualified for Day 2 with a time of 2:06.91 while Mykel Paulsen took 19th (2:14.72) and Chase Werner took 21st (2:15.73). In the 110 meter hurdles, Soeka Maw took 21st with a time of 18.23 seconds while Ayden Doherty took 24th (19.24 seconds) and Aidan Schuerman took 28th (19.77 seconds). In the 300 meter hurdles, Bryant Paulsen took sixth and qualified for Day 2 with a time of 43.23 seconds while Doherty took 24th (49.04 seconds) and Schuerman took 29th (50.94 seconds).
Finals events
In the 3200 meters, Sam Deutz took fourth with a time of 9:55.62 while Josh Leibfried took 11th (10:40.31) and Jordan Duscher took 28th (13:44.22). In the shot put, Eddie Garcia took eighth with a throw of 45-09 while Gabe Sherman took 21st (39-03) and Adam Meyer took 30th (35-08). In the pole vault, Elijah Bader took ninth with a height of 10-09 while Ben Parker took 10th (10-09). In the triple jump, Andrew Elton took eighth with a distance of 40-10 while Jaden Deines took 15th (38-09) and Cesar Guzman took 28th (35-03.50).

Prelim events
In the 100 meters, Paige Gillingham took 20th with a time of 13.98 seconds while Autumn Deutz took 26th (14.34 seconds) and Olivia Mertz took 33rd (15.32 seconds). In the 200 meters, Deutz took 25th with a time of 30.12 seconds while Madi Ziemer took 29th (30.88 seconds) and Maddi Panka took 34th (32.01 seconds). In the 400 meters, Bri Simpson took third and qualified for Day 2 with a time of 1:01.79 while Anna Kuecker took 27th (1:10.67) and Gracelyn Foster took 30th (1:10.90). In the 800 meters, Katelyn Leibfried took eighth and qualified for Day 2 with a time of 2:30.63 while Avery Schneekloth took 10th (2:33.83) and Jersey Leysen took 17th (2:42.20). In the 100 meter hurdles, Paige Duthoy took 11th with a time of 17.43 seconds while Beret Pedersen took 23rd (19.79 seconds) and Rel Xayairth took 24th (21.10 seconds). In the 300 meter hurdles, Duthoy took 11th with a time of 52.09 seconds while Ziemer took 20th (55.55 seconds) and Pedersen took 22nd (56.71 seconds).
Finals events
In the 3200 meters, Allyson Sample took fourth with a time of 11:32.36 while Cameen McFarquhar took 11th (12:43.21) and Madysson Hasert took 20th (14.26.77). In the discus, Brooke Gillingham took fourth with a throw of 104-09 while Kaylee VanHauwaert took 26th (71-11) and Lilliana VanMeveren took 30th (60-05). In the high jump, Ava Holmgren took eighth with a height of 4-10 while Avery Fahl took 11th (4-10) and Jocelyn Schlenner took 19th (4-08). In the long jump, Peyton Boeck took 13th with a distance of 15-06.75 while Averi Schneider took 16th (14-11) and Chioma Onyeaghala took 20th (14-07.25).
Marshall will compete in Day 2 of the Section 2AA meet today at 10 a.m.
Amateur baseball
Milroy Irish 5, Ruthton 2
RUTHTON — The Milroy Irish amateur baseball team defeated Ruthton 5-2 on Wednesday.
Josh Baker led the Irish with two hits and two RBIs while Derek Smith added two hits and an RBI and Tyler Peterson had two hits. The Irish threw a combined no-hitter on the mound, with Moses Dolan going seven innings while allowing two runs and striking out six, Baker going 1 1/3 innings and striking out one and Jared Tschetter going 2/3 of an inning and striking out two.
Shay Wabeke recorded the lone RBI for Ruthton. Jared Baartman took the loss on the mound, going six innings while allowing five runs on nine hits and struck out five.
The Irish will face Fox Lake and Fairmont on the road on Sunday at 2 and 5 p.m., respectively, while Ruthton will face Pipestone at home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS — The Granite Falls amateur baseball team defeated Atwater 14-12 on Wednesday.
Jordan Odegard led Granite Falls with three hits and an RBI while Bennett Knapper added two hits and three RBIs and Kyle TeBeest had a hit and three RBIs. Tommy Lindstrom earned the start, going 2 2/3 innings while allowing three runs on three hits and struck out two. Caleb Jans threw 3 1/3 innings while allowing five runs on six hits and struck out four while Dalton Anderson threw three innings while allowing four runs on five hits and struck out three.
Granite Falls (2-3) will face Sacred Heart on the road today at 7:30 p.m.
