BIRD ISLAND — The Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team fell to Bird Island 16-2 in seven innings on Sunday.

Andy Schmidt led the Yankees with two hits while Aaron Mathiowetz and Alex Thompson each had a hit and an RBI and Jake Tauer had a hit. Matiowetz took the loss on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings while allowing nine runs on six hits.

The Yankees (4-4) will face Granite Falls at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Gervais earned the start, going seven innings while allowing one run on five hits and struck out four. Garrett Hogeland took the loss in relief, going two innings while allowing two runs on four hits and struck out one.
